Obama Aide: Anybody Suggesting Replacing Biden ‘Would’ve Been Thrown Out of Oval Office’
Barack Obama aide Dan Pfeiffer told George Stephanopoulos on his eponymous show that research done to possibly replace Vice President Joe Biden for the 2012 ticket—a back-room nugget revealed by the upcoming book Double Down—was never taken seriously.
“This was never seriously considered, never taken to the president,” Pfieffer said. “No one in the campaign ever seriously considered this in any way shape or form.
“Then why was the research done?” Stephanopoulos asked.
“Research is done on a lot of things,” Pfieffer said. “As Bill Daley, who was chief of staff at the time, said the other morning, it wasn’t taken to the President. He said anybody who took it to the president probably would have been thrown out of the Oval Office. I believe that to be true, no matter what the research said.”
The revelations are coming courtesy of Double Down, by Mark Halperin and John Heilemann, authors of the 2008 tell-all Game Change.
Stephanopoulos asked if the large amount of revelations in the book was a continuation of the leak-heavy atmosphere during the campaign.
“I haven’t read [the book], [Obama] hasn’t read it,” Pfeiffer said. “But he hates leaks…Anybody who leaks has to pay a price. I don’t know who leaked in that book.”
