The hosts of The View clashed this morning over yesterday’s big congressional hearing with FBI agent Peter Strzok.
Strzok was removed from the Mueller probe over uncovered anti-Trump texts, but he defended himself from claims his bias influenced the investigation.
Guest co-host Tara Setmayer pointed out Strzok was “one of many guys” involved in the investigation, and if he really wanted to stop Donald Trump from winning, “he could have simply leaked to the press that Trump was under investigation.”
Meghan McCain was disturbed by some of his anti-Trump texts, but she was outraged by the Democratic congressman who said that Strzok deserves a Purple Heart.
“I thought it was kabuki theater on both sides,” she said. “Congressmen on each side of the aisle just trying to get clips on MSNBC and Fox News.”
When Joy Behar pushed back on the Purple Heart comment, McCain said, “People get their legs blown off and stuff to get Purple Hearts!”
Sara Haines lamented how, rather than accomplishing anything, the hearing instead was a “mirror of the uncivil nature of our politics.” Setmayer said, “I’ve never seen anything like that. It was kangaroo court.”
Behar said Republicans wanted to send a signal that they’re with Trump and “afraid of losing their seats.” McCain said Democrats were doing it too and brought up how Trey Gowdy is stepping down.
And when people in the audience applauded that, McCain said, “Oh, please, with the clapping. He’s one of the good ones!”
