Trump Campaign Adviser Scolded for Declaring President Most Honest of All Time: ‘Laughable’

A member of the Trump 2020 advisory board declared his boss the most honest U.S. president of all time on Fox News Thursday.

Harlan Hill, one of the more impressively shameless grifters of the Trump era (he was once a Bernie Bro), made the claim on Fox show Outnumbered Overtime:

“There’s no question that President Trump is the most transparent, honest, forthright president that we’ve ever had,” Hill said. “He over-communicates, almost to his detriment, sometimes, according to the media. He goes to Twitter, he speaks directly to the American people.”

That comment stunned his fellow guest, Democratic strategist Kristen Hawn, who called it “laughable.”

Hill’s assertion echoed Fox News contributor Marc Thiessen, who recently declared in a particularly clickbaity op-ed that Trump is “the most honest president in modern history.”

“Don’t get me wrong, Trump lies all the time,” Thiessen conceded in his piece. “But when it comes to the real barometer of presidential truthfulness — keeping his promises — Trump is a paragon of honesty.”

Thiessen is right, Trump does lie quite a bit. The Washington Post fact-checker has the president at more than 4,000 false or misleading claims since taking office. It would be like if Obama said “you can keep your doctor” 4,000 times in the first two years of his presidency.
