Trump Denies Million Dollar Charity Offer for Elizabeth Warren DNA Test: ‘I Didn’t Say That’
President Donald Trump spoke to reporters briefly outside the White House on Monday as he prepared to depart for Florida to view the hurricane damage, and among several questions, was asked about Sen. Elizabeth Warren revealing the results of a DNA test showing some Native American heritage in her family tree.
Trump, who refers to Warren as “Pocahontas” and seemed to previously offer a million dollars to charity if she were to prove that lineage via DNA test, when asked about it said, “who cares?”
A reporter asked him if he had any reaction to “Senator Elizabeth Warren releasing the results of her DNA test”, and as the reporter spoke, Trump jumped in to say “no, I don’t — who cares?”
The reporter then began a follow-up, saying “Mr. President you said you’d offer one million dollars to charity if she–”
Trump jumped in again, saying “no I didn’t say that, you better read it again.”
After a question about Saudi Arabia, he was asked about Warren running for president.
“I hope she’s running for president because I think she’d be very easy,” said Trump. “I hope that she is running. I do not think she’d be difficult at all. She’ll destroy the country. She’ll make our country into Venezuela.”
“That being said, I don’t want to say bad things about her because I hope she’d be one of the people that will get through the process. It’s going to be a long process for Democrats,” he added.
At a rally in Montana last year Trump imagined a future presidential campaign debate with Warren, Trump told supporters he would make the offer and see what happened.
“And we will say, ‘I will give you $1 million to your favorite charity, paid for by Trump, if you take the test and it shows you’re an Indian.’ And let’s see what she does. I have a feeling she will say no, but we will hold it for the debates.”
It’s not a presidential debate yet, but will a charity soon be receiving a big check from the billionaire president? Let’s see what he does.
