WATCH: Michael Avenatti Dishes on ‘Spirited’ Discussion With Kellyanne Conway Before WHCD

Michael Avenatti, the attorney for adult film star Stormy Daniels who is suing President Donald Trump, said Tuesday on CNN’s New Day that he had a “spirited” and “surreal” conversation with White House Counsel Kellyanne Conway just before the White House Correspondents Dinner on Saturday.

CNN host Alisyn Camerota asked Avenatti about the encounter, which occurred at Mediaite and UTA’s WHCD pre-party. CNN’s Don Lemon tweeted a photo of Avenatti and Conway’s encounter, which Camerota said looks like Don Lemon is “presiding at your wedding.”

“It looks like he’s the minister at your wedding to Kellyanne Conway and I’m just — obviously you two are on opposite sides of this Stormy Daniels case. What was this moment like?” Camerota asked.

Avenatti responded by making it clear that he’s “not getting married” to Conway and “we’re not engaged.” The attorney added that it was the first time he had met Conway.

“It was a rather spirited discussion and will leave it at that,” Avenatti said of the exchange.

Camerota pressed Avenatti further, asking him what the two discussed, specifically.

“We initially introduced ourselves and we actually discussed the fact that we both went to the same law school just as a coincidence and things progressed from there. I don’t want to get into the details of what we discussed, but it was spirited,” Avenatti said.

But was it — was it heated? Did you have a heated conversation?” Camerota probed.

“I wouldn’t describe it as heated, I think it was spirited. We’re both passionate in our positions. We don’t hesitate to articulate as much,” Avenatti said.

“Was it as surreal for you as it was for me witnessing it?” Camerota asked Avenatti.

“It was fairly surreal. Yeah, I would agree with that,” Avenatti replied.
