Buckingham Palace announced Monday that King Charles III has been diagnosed with cancer.

In a statement the Palace detailed that the diagnosis was not related to an enlarged prostate, for which the King was recently treated. The exact type of cancer remains undisclosed.

The 75-year-old monarch began “regular treatments” this week and Buckingham Palace conveyed the King’s positive stance. The statement read that he “remains wholly positive… and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible.”

As a precaution and to allow for his treatment, King Charles will be stepping back from public engagements, with other senior royals expected to fill in during his absence.
