‘Check Your Facts’: George Galloway Clashes With Good Morning Britain Hosts In Fiery Interview
George Galloway, the newly elected MP for Rochdale, crossed with hosts Susanna Reid and Richard Madeley on Tuesday’s Good Morning Britain in a fiery grilling over his shock by-election victory, deemed “beyond alarming” by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, and his historical political stances.
In a speech on extremism following Galloway’s election, Sunak accused him of dismissing the horrors of Hamas’ October 7 attack, of praising proscribed Islamist terror group Hezbollah, and pointing to an endorsement on X by former British National Party leader Nick Griffin.
During the interview, tensions escalated when Madeley questioned Galloway’s past association with Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein, which Galloway staunchly defended, retorting: “I’ve made lots of mistakes but not that one, that jibe doesn’t quite have the sting it used to have.”
The interview then took a contentious turn as Galloway, leader of the Workers Party of Britain (WPB), grew frustrated at Reid’s probing about his recent election and Sunak’s comments, leading to her pointedly asking: “You won’t answer questions about a few weeks ago and you won’t answer questions about 30 years ago…What is the question you’d like to ask yourself?”
Galloway said he’d rather discuss the WPB candidate for Southall, former England cricket player Monty Panesar: “That is interesting and current.”
When challenged on Sunak’s comments and on Griffin’s tweet, Galloway said: He said: “Make up your mind, am I the champion of the Muslims or am I endorsed by a guy that hates Muslims? He issued a tweet. How am I responsible for that?”
Reid replied: “I didn’t say you were responsible, George Galloway.”
The MP shot back: “Well, why are you putting it to me?”
The host repeated: “I said, what was wrong about the fact that you were endorsed by Nick Griffin…”
Galloway added: “If Nick Griffin said today Susanna Reid was his favourite television presenter…”
Reid replied: “I would absolutely reject…”
Galloway cut in: “As I absolutely reject it! As I did.”
The frosty interview ended with Galloway blasting the hosts’ research, telling Madeley: “Check your facts before you come on air. You’re old enough to know better”.
The interview split viewers who on one hand blasted Galloway as a “patronising, arrogant bully” while others ripping the hosts as a “disgrace.”
