Public Nominate GB News’ Nigel Farage For First Stomach-Churning Bushtucker Trial On ‘I’m a Celebrity’
The British public have spoken, and GB News host Nigel Farage is first up to take part in the notoriously stomach-churning bushtucker trials Monday, ominously titled Jungle Pizzeria, in his ‘I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here’ debut.
Farage is in the Australian outback for ITV’s reality show alongside other celebrity personalities like actress Jamie Lynn Spears and YouTuber Nella Rose.
Known for his political career as a former UKIP and Brexit party MEP, Farage is now taking on a new challenge, following in the controversial footsteps of last year’s infamous political contestant, pandemic-era Health Secretary Matt Hancock.
The premiere aired Sunday and introduced a diverse group of celebrities, each vying for the coveted title of King or Queen of the Jungle. The contestants undertake a range of gruelling survival tasks to win food rations for the camp.
Despite previous concerns over his participation in certain tasks due to health issues stemming from a 2010 plane crash, Farage was nominated on opening night for the Jungle Pizzeria eating challenge, where Farage, unsurprisingly chosen by public vote, will join Rose in an ordeal that will involve pizza’s topped with grubs, insects and animal parts.
Farage’s appearance on the show prompted widespread backlash by campaigners leading a movement to have him booted from the line up, saying ITV’s platforming “normalises [and] amplifies his toxic views.”
Adding to the outrage, Farage is reportedly set to earn £1.5 million for his appearance, a record-breaking fee.
The GB host, who has faced allegations of racism, sexism, and xenophobia throughout his career, has become a controversial figure for fans who took to social media to protest.
