Prince William called for an end to the conflict between Israel and Hamas Tuesday, asking that Israeli “hostages are freed” and urgent humanitarian aid delivered to Gaza.
In the statement, published on X, the royal said that “too many have been killed” and expressed his deep concern over the “terrible human cost” since the outbreak of violence following the Hamas terrorist attack on October 7, 2024.
The Prince of Wales wrote: “I, like so many others, want to see an end to the fighting as soon as possible. There is a desperate need for increased humanitarian support to Gaza. It’s critical that aid gets in and the hostages are released. Sometimes it is only when faced with the sheer scale of human suffering that the importance of permanent peace is brought home.”
He continued: “Even in the darkest hour, we must not succumb to the counsel of despair. I continue to cling to the hope that a brighter future can be found and I refuse to give up on that.”

The royal’s comments come at a critical juncture as Israel contemplates a ground invasion of Rafah, a densely populated area in the Gaza Strip, raising international concerns over potential civilian casualties. The statement also comes one day ahead of Wednesday’s Commons vote on a ceasefire, a motion tabled by the Scottish National Party and back by Labour.
