WATCH: Piers Morgan Names ‘Racist’ Royals After Omid Scobie Book Translation Slip

TalkTV host Piers Morgan piled pressure on author Omid Scobie Wednesday after he revealed the names of two royals implicated in allegations of racism in Scobie’s controversial new book about the monarchy.

In his book, Endgame, Scobie alleges that unnamed royals had inquired about the potential skin colour of Prince Archie before his birth, a reiteration of an allegation first made by Meghan Markle that has sparked widespread controversy and led to the book being pulled from shelves in the Netherlands.

Prince Archie is the son of Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, and Markle, Duchess of Sussex.

Two royals were named in the Dutch version of Endgame in what has been described as a “translation error” by the publisher which resulted in the book being suddenly withdrawn from shelves. The revelation has since caused a public outcry, leading to discussions about racism within the royal family.

Scobie denied naming the implicated royals due to libel laws but said he had referenced Markle’s allegation in his book but said he refrained from.

“There’s never been a version that I’ve produced that has names in it,” Scobie told Dutch chat show RTL Boulevard.

Morgan, however, has been critical of the author’s posture. During his Talk TV show on Wednesday night, Morgan decided to name the two royals at the centre of the scandal, marking the first time their identities have been disclosed to the public in the UK.

In a monologue, the host blasted Scobie’s “spiteful” and “lie-filled new book.” Morgan questioned how such a “translation error” could happen if the names weren’t in the manuscript to begin with, ripping the author for his refusal to take responsibility, before naming the two royals implicated.

Morgan’s move stirred outrage and criticism, with many questioning the ethics of publicly disclosing the names.

ITV News’ Royal Editor Chris Ship expressed his disapproval, stating on social media: “The 2 royal names were never that hard to find & now @piersmorgan made it even easier by sharing them on his TV show.”

Morgan defended his decision in reply to Ship saying he “should grow a pair and name them too” as well as criticising the “unsubstantiated claims” made to Oprah.

The accusation originated from Markle’s initial revelation during her and Prince Harry’s interview with Oprah in March 2020. At the time Markle said: “In those months when I was pregnant [there were] concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be when he was born.”

Prince Harry added: “That conversation, I am never going to share. At the time it was awkward, I was a bit shocked.”
