Hollywood Director Assembles Avengers, Other Big Celebs in PSA Against ‘Orange Muppet Hitler’
Avengers director Joss Whedon has assembled an army to help his favorite heroes take on their most formidable opponent yet: Donald Trump.
The geek god of sci-fi announced the creation of his new Save The Day super PAC on Wednesday, which will focus on encouraging voters to get out on November 8 and fulfill their civic duty. Whedon told Buzzfeed that he’s shooting a series of short films to get the message going, and today’s announcement video starred pretty much every celebrity under the rainbow.
Scarlett Johansson, Mark Ruffalo, and Robert Downey Jr. of Avengers fame all make appearances, along with Keegan-Michael Key, Neil Patrick Harris, Martin Sheen, and many others. While the video focuses on the importance of voting and no one ever mentions Trump by name, Don Cheadle did set the stage when he referred to a certain someone as a “racist abusive coward who could permanently damage the fabric of our society.”
As he talked about his plans for his future videos, Whedon told Buzzfeed his strategy was to talk to as many celebrities as he could to help him create “a voting PSA to help get out the vote and stop orange Muppet Hitler.”
“It’s about targeting people who either aren’t going to vote or have been anesthetized out of voting,” Whedon explained. “[Voting] matters more than any single thing you’re going to do in the next two years. It’s the exact definition of democracy. It is a heroic and necessary act.”
