NATO Secretary General: Trump’s Commitment Has Led to $100B in Alliance Member Spending

North Atlantic Treaty Organization Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg told Fox News’ John Roberts on Sunday that because of President Donald Trump’s commitment to the organization, the impact has been very positive.

Trump has been very vocal in wanting the rest of the countries in NATO to follow through on having them spend more on defense so the United States is not the only country bearing the financial responsibility.

Many NATO countries have agreed to step up payments considerably, as they should. Money is beginning to pour in- NATO will be much stronger.

Europe has to pay their fair share for Military Protection. The European Union, for many years, has taken advantage of us on Trade, and then they don’t live up to their Military commitment through NATO. Things must change fast!

“President Trump has been very clear, he is committed to NATO, he has stated that clearly just a few days ago, and it is also at the NATO summit in July. But at the same time, he has clearly stated that NATO allies need to invest more. And, therefore, at the summit in July last year we agreed to do more to step up, and now we see the results,” Stoltenberg explained. By the end of next year, NATO allies will add $100 billion extra U.S. for defense.”

“I’m happy with the fact that he has helped us to now move on the question of burden-sharing within the alliance. And this is important for European allies for a strong nato, it’s good for Europe, but it’s also good for (the) United States,” he added.
