Metropolitan Transportation Authority officials are reporting a “major derailment” on the Metro-North Railroad near Fairfield, Connecticut, resulting in the collision of two trains with “preliminary reports of injuries.”
The collision took place at approximately 6:10pm and emergency workers are arriving on the scene. Service has been suspended between Stamford and New Haven. “At this stage, we don’t know if this is a mechanical failure, an accident or something deliberate,” said Fairfield Police spokesman Lt. James Perez. The spokesman also confirmed that there had initially been four injuries, with two people taken off the train in stretchers, and no fatalities reported.
