A Festivus For The Rest Of Us (Video Bloggers)

ZennieI love Mediaite and the work of its editors and columnists. But I’m taking a gander its “Media Influencers” list- it’s Festivus contribution – and I really have to disagree with it’s perspective. This is more along the lines of “people we have heard of” rather than what people have done. So in the sprit of Festivus, here’s my “Airing of Grievances.”

Mediaite totally forgot video-bloggers, yet people copy what we do everyday without even understanding what the hell they’re doing. This is rampant. Vloggers like Renetto, or Andrew Michael Baron at Rocketboom (right there in Mediaite’s New York City backyard) and his now-former collegue Amanda Congdon, one of the top two women vloggers along with Irina Slutsky in San Francisco, all of whom have changed the face of media, are not on the list.

Chad Hurley – the founder of YouTube and who has been a big help to me – must be in the top 10 of the Mediaite list; he’s not there.

Mediaite must also include Matt Cutts at Google, who’s the master of website design and search system operation.

What I’m saying is the list shows the overall – sorry to say – lack of “tech” understanding of media by the East Coasters. In my case, I’m the number one traffic generator at SFGate.com and I’m already at 1.6 million visitors to the site for December alone.

That’s no accident and is attributed to a formulaic approach I created.

Media’s changing more and more into a technical industry rather than an artistic one. I welcome it because it means an ability to destroy the racism and other -isms that have plagued media. The race is to the technically brilliant, not the ones with the titles.
