Alabama GOP Sen. Richard Shelby Says He Didn’t Vote For Roy Moore on Absentee Ballot

Earlier this month, following bombshell reports that alleged Alabama GOP Senate nominee Roy Moore had pursued sexual relationships with teenage girls when he was in his 30s, the Alabama Republican Party came out and said it would stand behind Moore and his campaign. Meanwhile, a number of Republican elected officials in the state have come out and offered up their support for Moore, stating that they’ll vote for him next month.
However, it appears that there will be one very notable exception.
According to congressional reporters, Sen. Richard Shelby (R-AL) has said that he already cast his absentee ballot, and it did not include Moore’s name.

Richard Shelby says he already voted in the Alabama Senate race, and he did NOT vote for Roy Moore.
He says he voted for "a distinguished Republican write-in."

Earlier today, The Daily Beast reported that a retired Marine colonel, Lee Busby, was launching a last-minute write-in campaign aimed at Republican voters. Busby, who once worked as an aide to current White House Chief of Staff John Kelly, explained that the allegations against Moore “created enough distaste in my mind.”
Shelby didn’t tell the reporters that name he wrote in, only stating that it was a “distinguished Republican write-in.”
