Andrew Sullivan Asks Why Piper Palin Isn’t In School (A: Summer Vacation)

Guys, we don’t mind telling you that it’s been a pretty slow week for news. We’ve got undercover cupcakes and robo-Palins and, of course, that one guy’s rather outgoing male appendage. But we, and other media bloggers, aren’t exactly scrambling to keep track of myriad breaking news items this week. So you’ll forgive the Daily Beast’s Andrew Sullivan for crafting a short blog entry – “Piper Palin as Bodyguard” – that consists of a very important query:

Is it too outrageous to ask why this little girl is not in school, rather than acting as a media bouncer for her mother on a publicity/campaign tour?

Sullivan eventually answered his own questions: 1) Only Jem is so outrageous, and 2) school’s out for the summer.

That said, Sullivan could perhaps turn this into a (slightly more appropriate) offshoot of Wonkette’s take on Palin and other politicians using their children as strategic political assets. That, we’d like to see. But, for now, there are Weiners to roast.

Tip of the hat to reader Jim for having brought this to my attention.

School’s out for summah for many, Andrew. Mine have been out for a week, and would have been slightly earlier than that, if not because we ran out of snow days this year.

You don’t know a damn thing about kids, just stop. You look like an idiot.

  • TfT

Kids as props? Kind of like Obama and Michelle when they take theirs all over the place on AFOne and ya’ll never report it? Like making political hay out of democrat kids?

And yes, school is out so why not take her daughter to all these historic sites?

Can you just one day write a clean story about Palin, and not snark over somethingor other? how about a new story on that idiot reporter on CNN who made a fool of herself by snarking at Palin – much like Susan Rosegyn made a fool of herself.

Honestly. Admit it: Sullivan is a creep who is obsessed with the Palin family.

Not only does Palin’s bus tour do NOTHING to educate the American people about this country despite what she says, it also appears she is actively distracting others from learning anything about it.

    Dear Alex,
Sullivan had already updated his post (yesterday) to acknowledge that Piper’s on vacation before you posted this.
Seems a bit gratuitous to criticize someone after he’s already admitted he was off-base.

Probably the first break he has had from ogling the

There are more pictures/video’s of Piper looking grumpy than happy. In one video she yells at the media for “ruining her vacation”.

Doesn’t sound like this kid is actually having fun being a kid. I feel bad for her.

Okay, on a second read, I’m even more confused. You even acknowledge Sullivan corrected himself. So what’s the point of this column?

  • Zandandido

Andrew Sullivan is an idiot. Plain and simple. I didn’t realize it was illegal or against the law in the USA, New Hampshire, or Manchester, you take your kids on vacation. When a conservative does it, big difference I guess.

Andrew Sullivan Asks Why Piper Palin Isn’t In School (A: Summer Vacation)

Let’s forgive sullivan his latest totally idiotic statement. You see sullivan, like most lunatic-left d-cRAT socialists-to be, spent his summers in make-up classes in summer school for all those that he flunked during regular classes. The teeny, tiny minds of the lunatic-left are a real hindrance to summer vacations.

Andrew Sullivan’s bread and butter is Sarah Palin and he knows it. So periodically he trots out mean spirited and venomous posts that get him booked on Behar and keeps his face on TV.

I’m a libertarian/conservative who doesn’t even like Palin. There are plenty of legitimate reasons to disagree with her policy…but that won’t get you on tv. So Sullivan continues…

i don’t know that palin has said anything about educating anyone… she has said repeatedly her purpose is simply to remind americans about the foundations of our heritage, what makes us a great country… but if anyone is capable of being distracted from learning by palin, then they probably don’t have much grey matter to work with anyway…

Sullivan is hit and miss with Palin. (disclamer I dislike Palin tremendously) Andrew’s meme that the Down’s child was not hers is ridiculous, and this Piper thing is a non story. But Sullivan is many times on target concerning Palin, she is a easy target. I also agree its his bread and butter. Overall I like Sullivan but he can get silly.

  • Nature Freak

I enormously dislike Sarah Palin, but I give her credit, she has fan devotion that rivals Ron paul devotees and probably surpasses them at this point. Not every politician can do this so Palin obviously has some political talent and charisma . But for every Palinbot there are two or three people who can not stand her, including many Republicans. This is a risky move for winning the Republican Party primary and a crash and burn plan for the general. Palin has to start winning over moderates but has no clue how. Palin’s hubris will be her failure, possibly in some sort of Shakespearean way.

Sullivan went from a semi-interesting gay conservative blogger to a full on Obama supporter who for some reason obsessively feels the need to whack Palin.

He’s had some interesting things to say in the past, but it seems he will only be remembered as the guy propagating Trig truther conspiracy theories.

Palin’s feminine charms/ cougar looks also attract a lot of men over 30 (not me, she is a classic mean girl in high school type) But her same physical attributes/ persona turns of a lot off women as well. Palin needs to spend more time reading and educating herself, but I doubt she has a intellectual bone in her body. This is another Achilles heel of hers.

Hard to say. I like it when he is (or any other blogger) independent thinking. Whatever reason the econmy is tanking (I take the long view that some of this is because we were the last man standing after ww2 and the rest of the world is catching up and surpassing us) the fact is its happening, and it is a threat to Obama especially if an actual centrist Republican with charisma runs against him. i believe it is far to go after Bristol because see has decided herself to be a public figure and Todd going back to Alaska was a public figure and very powerful in Juneau. You mistake “hatred” for incredulity/astonishment. AS has also been slightly miscast in some of the comments by posters. His comments come from outrage over her being taken seriously because most of what SP says is BS. Now, you can easily argue that he’s louder/more aggressive than some, but he’s been documenting her lies and is imploring the media to ask this woman serious questions.

You can take it or leave it, but it’s not *hatred* It’s simply outrage over someone so unqualified to be treated in such a manner as a Romeny, Pawlenty or Obama. She barely has a grasp on American history, much less any Serious foreign policy knowledge.

And SarahP parades her children around like props, whether on stage, on this bus tour or in her TV show.

Now, Willow/Piper/Trig are pretty much off limits because they are young children not in the “public”. Bristol is not, has put herself out in the public and can be considered partially “fair game”. Todd is completely “fair game” due to his involvement in her politics.

And like someone prior said, she’s such an easy target, that SP.

  • WCinWI

Alex – The more legit story to delve into is why are Liberals (I’m assuming that the majority that post at Gawker are liberals) conspiracy theorists. The real story is that on the Gawker article that you linked to, they were making fun of Piper’s shirt, thinking that it was a cuss word.

    So what about his birtherism?

His birtherism has been mischaracterized. (Seriously) He has stated time and time again that the SP version (even in her book) of the trip/labor/birth of Trig is either a lie or reckless. He really hasn’t been the cheerleader for “not SP’s kid!”; he’s been the cheerleader for “clear up this whopper of a tale!” He also has been harping on the fact that MSM just accepted her story without blinking an eye when actual, serious questions could be raised.

You must also remember the context: the birth of this special needs child, her discussion of her personal thoughts of “do I have the baby or not?”, etc., are part of her conservative/christian bona fides.

So, AS isn’t so much of a Trig-birther, but more of a Trig-truther.

And, in some ways, I agree. Her tale of his birth is either a lie or demonstrates a reckless woman (high risk pregnancy, traveling in 3rd trimester, labor in TX, flies to AK (Anchorage), then more driving to Matsu Hospital (or the localish hospital near Wasilla) to deliver a kid).

Personally, I think her birth story is BS and that yes, Trig, is her natural-born child.

There is no better American for bringing out the best of America than Sarah Palin. God bless America. And God bless Sarah Palin. We love you so much Sarah!!! Visit SarahPac. Sarah Palin 2012!!!!!

I see you have the talking points memorized by heart. If you work for SarahPac let me tell you, when Sarah’s campaign collapses and self destructs (and it will) be prepared. Just remember Nature Freak warned you.
BTW, if she does run she will need to learn to answer unscripted questions from the press including from people who are not in the tank for Sarah. This is the reality here or any other democratic country on the globe. I think Palin is quite naive to think otherwise or is involved in some sort of warped magical thinking.

You may be right about Piper Pablo. Track is a war hero. Bristol is a TV star. I’m interested as many Americans are to see the direction that Willow and Piper not to mention Trig take in their lives as they get older. Something tells me that they will not disappoint America either. There is a special twinkle in the eyes of Piper that makes her stand out already as a young girl. Maybe she will become a historian. She has definitely contributed to the One Nation tour in ways not to be expected from such a girl her age. She may follow in the footsteps of Sarah educating and reminding us over the traditions and values that have made America the most wonderful country on earth. The sky is the limits with the Palin family. That’s for sure. Something tells me that we will be closely watching this incredible American family for many years to come. God bless the Palin family. And God bless America. Visit SarahPac. Sarah Palin 2012!!!!!

Why don’t we just make it official, cancel the coming election and make the Palin’s America’s royal family. We can build them their own Buckingham palace somewhere in Fairfax County,. And how about this, Bristol can marry Prince Harry in order to create a dynasty between the House of Windsor and the house of Palin.Todd, Sarah’s consort will be the Duke of Wassila. Screw constitutional monarchy, lets have an absolute monarchy. Louis XIV won’t have nothing on Sarah Palin. All hail Sarah the sun goddess! (Extreme sarcasm)

What happened? I ‘m pretty liberal and Mediaite has been very cool in posting my anti Palin comments, or any other comments on various subjects I have posted. I commend Mediaite for that.

  • JasonMays

Why do liberals obsess over the children of politcians they don’t like?

I hate Obama and his ugly wife, but I could care less about his dumbass kids.

How did someone as limited as you are ever find your way onto the Internet in the first place? lol. You’re a real piece of work buddy. I could loan you 30 IQ points, and I’d still be in triple digits, while you’d still be in double digits.

I don’t know if you’re aware of this or not, but all you ever do here is post some pretty lame put-downs to people you disagree with like a tiny Pomeranian constantly nipping at someone’s heels…you brain stem! =P

Oh I’.m sure Andrew is on the Weiner thing, he is really into such. Surprised he took time out from Weiner to go after another Palin Child.

  • An Idea

Some believe Sullivan is a ninnyhammer . Others agree .

  • Barack Must Go

How big of a liberal douchebag does one have to be to even have a thought such as this?

Unfortunately Sullivan is not alone, just he was the first to write about it.

Liberalism has to be a mental illness, there is just no other feasable explaination.

  • An Idea

No one this side of Austin , Texas is as weirdly interested in Sarah Palin’s children .

Some find this creepy . All others find it extremely creepy .

  • writer

Ever notice that if Palin brings her kids along, they’re being used as props? But if they don’t appear with her, she’s a horrible parent for abandoning them. Ahh, the leftie sense of fairness.

  • An Idea

There’s a fellow in Austin who suggests leashes and kennels for the children of conservatives , whilst children of liberals run free and tweet stuff .

Ever notice that it isn’t the conservatives that are ripping into the children of the opposition? Gore children were on the campaign trail so were Kerry’s/Edward’s. Never have I seen so much vitriol directed at candidate’s children as the Palin children and the Bush twins and cousin Noelle suffered through a bit of it too. Shameless, ignorant, crass, vile, etc. the left has it in spades.

I say, children, adult children included, and extended family members, leave them alone. BTW, attacking them is not becoming of those who are doing it.

I recall my favourite shot of Piper licking her hand and tamping down her little Brother’s hair. It was absolutely adorable and loving and the left wing media couldn’t figure out what she was doing. It was weird, according to them.

At that point, I completely lost respect for the left wing media. To take an adorable touching shot and malign it was unconscionable. If it had been a left wingers child doing so, it would have made the cover of Time to indicate the love that a child shows for her sibling,

Didn’t they report something negative about Justice Robert”s little boy too? Can’t remember what it was that the lefties were crowing about back then. Conservative’s child=target.

True . It was great . Why do liberals try to tear down what is wonderful about this beautiful family ? Say what you will about Sarah . Hands off the rest .

The left makes excuses for their meanness by saying the kids are ‘out there’. As if simply appearing in public is some horrible crime.

The left kick children, push the elderly off the sidewalk, spit on windows, and burp in public.

Andy has a Brit mindset on this. Their kids get a much more rigorous education. Years ago my cousins lived in London for two years when then were about Piper’s age. When they got back to Houston, they were promoted two grades ahead because of what they’d learned.

He has done FAR more than that. I am not a Palin fan. And her story about the birth of Trig is a little weird. But weird does not give Sullivan carte blanche to push his belief that Trig is one of Palin’s grandchildren that she is passing off as her own. That is sick. I’m not down with Obama birtherism, Palin birtherism, Van Jones and Rosie’s 9/11 trutherism. And even though I wouldn’t vote for Palin doesn’t mean Sullivan isn’t a cruel prick for doing what he does and Chris matthews is scum that should rot in H3LL for putting on TeeVee every weekend.

You are glossing over what Sullivan does and is doing because you both are on the same side. I don’t support Obama birthers and I don’t make excuses for them. I denounce them and want them away from me because they make me look bad (and they’re factually wrong). As your embrace of Sullivan does to you. I’ve seen you be pretty reasonable on this site before. You might want to rethink your embrace of Sullivan and his tactics.

So you’ll forgive the Daily Beast’s Andrew Sullivan

Let me stop you right there.

Isn’t it weird that Sullivan is so angry about how other people raise their children, a topic he knows absolutely nothing about?

  • seek

Sullivan is like a dog with a bone with Palin’s Children. I don’t really understand it but it is rather creepy.
He has alienated a lot of people with his visible hate for her children. What’s with him? His behaviour is childish and bordering on the insane. In fact, Sullivan has managed to lose all credibility all by himself and his actions.

  • Gorgegirl

I think it was a legitimate question. But I can only ask why, if Sarah is taking her family on a big bus to tour the New England shores, she even told the media about it and painted her bus to attract attention? Piper seemed angry that the news media was there and expressed those feeling angrily at the media wanting to know why they were there while “she was on vacation”. She should ask her mother. Apparently her mom wanted publicity for something. And all I want is to hear Sarah’s version again of Paul Revere.

  • cyberk9sheriff

Who thinks this stuff up…LOL..or don’t think. Even if school isn’t out, the child may even be HOME schooled. Why is she on the trip. Man, I would love the chance to see everything that child is going to visit, and with her mother to share the moments. Some said she looked angry, you would too, at that age having to deal with people bugging you at every stop…
But, it being Palin and the people that hate her so much are going to go after any and every thing.

Im sorry, but if you dont get Paul Revere the first time and then after Sara explained it again you never will. And as for the Palin kids being on this tour, they will learn more than most kids will in a lifetime by going to public institutions. By the way, they used to call those schools until Unions and Tenure killed the ability to educate our children. Now they are just day camps for kids while parents work to support Obamacare.

Ahhhhh shoot, you mean they didnt ask you for your permission before taking her on a very educational trip of this great country? That must suck big time huh. Maybe next time. In fact I will insist Sara gets your permission if she ever wants to leave her drive way again. Grow up and dont be so silly.
