Arizona Governor Jan Brewer issued a statement tonight on the botched execution that left a death-row inmate reportedly gasping for air for almost two hours before he finally died. Brewer ordered a full review of the execution process in reaction to these reports of Joseph Wood‘s execution.
Brewer said, “I am concerned by the length of time it took for the administered drug protocol to complete the lawful execution of the convicted double murderer, Joseph Wood.”
However, the governor did note that as bad as the execution went, Wood “died in a lawful manner and by eyewitness and medical accounts he did not suffer,” comparing this to the suffering he inflicted on his victims.
