Geraldo Rivera Warns Trump Has ‘Made Liars’ of GOP in Tirade Against MAGA ‘Groupthink’

Geraldo Rivera warned President Donald Trump had “made liars” of the “entire” Republican Party as Wednesday’s CNN NewsNight panel discussed the president’s clean sweep in Arizona’s Republican primaries, arguing the GOP’s “groupthink” on election fraud had undermined its credibility.

Earlier in the day, Trump celebrated what he called a “BIG NIGHT FOR MAGA,” touting a perfect “7-0” record after every Republican candidate he endorsed in Arizona’s closely watched primary elections won on Tuesday.

The panel was discussing the significance of Trump’s endorsements when MeidasTouch host Dina Doll alleged that three individuals running in the state and backed by the president were “election deniers.”

Commentator Tara Setmayer said the results reflected a broader strategy heading into future elections: “Donald Trump is coming for our elections in the midterms and setting it up for 2028. We know this. He’s telegraphing it.”

“And this is another example of him doing that by endorsing candidates that do not believe in free and fair elections and relitigating 2020 and conspiracy theories,” she added.

Rivera, a self-described Republican and a friend of Trump who later broke with him, responded by shifting the conversation away from future elections and toward what he called the party’s ongoing inability to answer a basic question about the 2020 presidential race.

“The one thing about talking about the future and projecting what‘s going to happen is that we tend to then neglect what is. To me, the biggest story, political story, how Donald Trump, the president of the United States, has made liars of the entire Republican Party,” Rivera said. “He has.”

He continued: “When you ask a straight-honest question, ‘Who won the election?’ If they can‘t answer that question, then everything else they‘re saying is BS.”

“I just think that when the groupthink… it‘s like they‘ve all had a-” he stuttered before concluding, “And I‘m a Republican!”
