Report: CBS Radio Reporter Shot At In Bahrain

CBS News report one of its journalists in Bahrain, Toula Vlahou, was shot at by riot police during a clash between protesters and police in a village outside Manama.”We were attacked by a wall of riot police,” Vlahou said. “We thought they were going to fire tear gas at us. But they fired pellets at us.”

Vlahou says she and her driver, a Bahraini photographer working for the BBC, had already decided to leave the area when they were fired on:

“I had to fall to the ground in the driver’s seat as the driver was driving to get out of there,” Vlahou added.

The riot police began chasing them and continued shooting at the car. A helicopter was hovering above them for the entire time. Vlahou said her driver believes that a helicopter above saw him filming, and “chased us and actually pursued us because they say him filming the scene.” The neighborhood people were watching from their houses as Vlahou and the driver were being fired upon. One neighbor waved at them to come into the house. The local family ushered them into a prayer room in the back of the house where they remained there an hour.

Vlahou, who was unharmed, took shelter in a home near the area and was picked up by an Associated Press reporter. Vlahou says riot police destroyed the car she had been in, and CBS has been in touch with the American Embassy regarding the incident.

I hope you really didn’t mean that. Without the journalists we wouldn’t know at all what was going on and I for one pray for their safety.

The shooter in Bahrain must have seen the targets on Sarah Palin’s web page. I know she has a strong following in ISLAMIC countries. (Note my use of the “word that cannot be spoken”….at least not in the mainstream US media.)
