CNN Poll: GOP Voters Find Perry “Most Electable”

Rick Perry continues to poll well, and a CNN/ORC International Poll released ahead of tonight’s debate shows the Texas statesmen leading in both theoretical votes and general electability, earning the all important “nice guy” vote.

The reports find that Perry easily earns his party’s nomination, holding 30 percent of Republicans’ and Independents’ theoretical votes, while Mitt Romney earns only 18 percent. It also finds that, more drastically, 42 percent of those polled saying he has the best chance of beating Obama next year while only 26 percent say Romney has the best chance of defeating the president. ”Perry doesn’t simply have the most support in a hypothetical ballot,” explains CNN polling director Keating Holland, “He also tops the list of GOP candidates on every personal quality tested.”

That Tim Pawlenty and Mike Huckabee gave their endorsements to Romney today might indicate that certain party members’ confidence lies elsewhere than their voters. This is something Salon‘s Alex Pareene suggests they consider. “Republican voters have convinced themselves that Perry can win, because they like him the most,” he says:

A party is probably better off going with someone who excites people — like Barack Obama! — than someone who won the nomination because everyone convinced themselves that he was the most “electable” according to certain totally unscientific parameters — like John Kerry! — and the GOP always does well for itself by reaching just a bit further rightward than is currently politically acceptable. … Perry’s only slightly higher risk, with potentially much greater reward.

It’s still a two horse race between Rick Perry and Mitt Romney.

I’m not sure Tim Pawlenty has helped Romney’s cause by throwing his WEIGHT behind him. Still, there’s a long way to go and many pitfalls that will almost certainly appear.

This has to be the best news this bleeding heart liberal has heard all day.

Go, Rick, go!  You’ll scare the shit out of anyone not solidly Republican!

  • RestInPieces777

I can’t believe anyone would even think of voting for this idiot. What a joke.

  • Just some Blow Hard…

Didn’t we just have a story on here that said that basically all polls are Bull%$#@?

  • Anonymous

From what I have seen of Perry so far, he is a temper tantrum waiting to happen.
I actually hope that doesn’t happen, and Perry gets the nomination. He will be easier to beat.

Pistolero Rick Perry:” Whoozat? Show yuhself!” Pale Rider Sarah: ” Why, Rick Perry! You look like somebody walked over your grave”. Rick: “Awright, sister. Yuh axed for it!” KaPow! PowPow! Sarah: “Why, Rick. You’re no daisy. You’re no daisy at all.”

Don’t cry when he’s selecting Ginsburg’s replacement on the Supreme Court; it’s unbecoming.

  • Anonymous

Unless 50.1% of the electorate find you the ‘Most Electable’, it really doesn’t matter.

  • Anonymous

And don’t you cry when the GOP loses the most easily winnable presidential election in decades.  :)

  • Moosenuts99

PArry’s jogging coyote story is full of crap/holes

    BAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHa

Perry can win the general election because he is a winner. Barack Obama not so much.

  • Anonymous

    You’re running Mondale again?

  • Anonymous

You’re right! I don’t think they get shooting themselves in the foot. If it’s not Perry, there could be a problem! Killing off their so called RINOs, is the answer to our prayers!

  • Anonymous

Yes, you should send him your money and support and keep the faith alive!

  • Re-Elect Obama 2012

Perry got his ass booed by tea party evangelicals in the audience tonight.

  • Sue

Perry is a winner, He admits when he made a mistake, no more of the blame game. Just like president Kennedy he admitted and took responsibility for the mess with Cuba. That is human and American.

  • Newyorkslugger31

Too bad the American public is not smart enough to elect Ron Paul. They believe with the talking point media says and only wants you to see. Starts researching your candidates on your own using other than the big media for your information

  • Victoria

Perry has served as Governor of Texas for three terms – that would seem sufficient proof of electability for most folks.  His conservative credentials are excellent and he shines more with every debate so far to this point.  He’s proven capable of handling the economy based on what he did presiding over the state with the highest level of job creation in the country these past several years in a row.  His first order of business once into the Oval Office is going to be getting Obamacare overturned, saving not only the ailing economy but also keeping taxpayers from paying for abortion of innocent babies and euthanasia of the elderly or the infirm.  He was the leader of the National Day of Prayer this year.  It will be such a breath of fresh air to at long last have a CHRISTIAN in the White House again – Perry for President in 2012!

Ok, bigot. Woefully, woefully misinformed bigot.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_3IBX36QBUJODV2DGRI3SVYTJ74 Michael

I agree.I am not going to vote for any Republican other than Dr.Paul.And to all the other Republicans who say “then you want four more years of Obama?”No!I want someone who actually takes their orders from the Constitution.

  • RestInPieces777

Barack Obama isn’t a winner? What, has the country been experiencing a collective hallucination for the past three years or something?

  • foolishsheeple

This is just pathetic.  America if you don’t elect Ron Paul as President this time, you are dumb, and deserve whatever is about to happen

  • nivola55

Ditto newyorkslugger. Ron Paul is the remedy to neo-con militaristic madness as well as to government solutions espoused by Democrats and to a lesser degree, Republicans. Do your homework people. READ!! And don’t let the corporate whores in the media choose your candidate for you.

  • http://www.facebook.com/erinregan Erin Moss Regan

Seriously?  Are you people going to let the Media decide for you who YOU want for president?  Do you “really” think Romney and Perry are the true  ”frontrunners?”  Yes, they may have great hair and look the part but, do you think either of these “frontrunners” have had 30 years of consistent voting records and uncompromising values?   Perry is known for his flip-flopping ideals and paying attention to special interests (and yes, he may not have made a lot of money from Merck but he sure has made his buddies over there happy for the extra business).  YOU are smart enough to decide who YOU want for President.  Do your research, see beyond the BLATANT bias and censorship of mainstream media, and decide for YOURSELF who you want for President.

Remember, it should not be about the packaging – it is all about the substance and continuity of values.Ron Paul 2012!!!!

  • http://www.facebook.com/erinregan Erin Moss Regan

Perry is NOT a winner.  Perry is a puppet who supports special interests and has no consistent values.  Look up his voting record.

  • http://www.facebook.com/erinregan Erin Moss Regan

Do you think it’s okay for the government to mandate innoculations against a potential STD for non-sexually active *children* with an expiremental drug?  Seriously?

Perry is only admitting to making a mistake because he knows what a political error it was to mandate this in the first place, not realizing at that time he would run for president and it would bite him on the arse.  He is just trying to save face but I don’t buy it for a minute.  If he was a man of substance, he wouldn’t HAVE to admit he made a mistake when it comes to the well being of young girls across his state because he wouldn’t have MADE the mistake in the first place.

What is American is to have the same core values for 30 years, and NOT to flip-flop to try and gain votes. or gain political favor.

That is why I will vote for my next President, Ron Paul in 2012.  Check out his voting record, it is consistent and he has never waivered from his beliefs.  He is nicknamed Dr. No for his opposition to all unconstitutional legislation.

    God Bless Ron Paul!

  • http://www.facebook.com/erinregan Erin Moss Regan

Wow, you are totally duped by the political rhetoric of empty promises, or perhaps it is the great hair of Perry.  Google “Rick Perry Gardasil” and “Nafta superhighway.”   I seriously recommend that you turn off your Fox News / CNN and do some research on your own, you will see this man is very scary and has a horrible record.

  • http://games-survival.com Justplaythegame

CNN.. please add my “NO” vote to your Poll as Perry “Most Electable”… thank you

  • Bob

”He was the leader of the National Day of Prayer this year.”—Just curious…Did you agree with Perry’s choice of preachers, who thought the Statue of Liberty was ‘a demonic idol” and believe the Japanese earthquake happened because the emperor “slept with a sun goddess?” And do you believe in the Benny Hinn-style faith healing these charlatans perform for their audiences?

  • NeverWrong

Ron Paul…ROTFFLMFAO…Ron ‘Nutjob’ Paul. That old fart ain’t got a Chinaman’s chamce in hell. Ron Paul, LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL Too damn funny

  • NeverWrong

Perry is going to be our next President. The oBUMbler is finished. One term and out. Electing Perry will drive every Dummycrap crazy his win will also drive every last stinking DimOcrat out of America and into the Socialist Commie country of their choice. America will then become America again. oBUMmer is a joke.

  • Sid

yeah ron paul is nuts and bachmann, perry, romney, sarah palin are all so so smart…. NOT. fucking sheeple will bring down the country :(

One beneficiary of TX’s Enterprise Fund was Countrywide Financial which received $20 million from the TX before going bankrupt under fraud allegations. Not only did Perry approve funds going to Countrywide, in a speech he touted Countrywide as the fund’s “crowning jewel”. Countrywide later became known for being a primary cause of the subprime loan mortgage meltdown and “has become synonymous with the excesses that led to the housing bubble.”

  • Wrwt2

I think Romney is pretty smart. He graduated in the top 5% of his class at Harvard.

  • Wrwt2

And if he fails, he can just secede from……oh…….wait.

  • Broadhorizons

    Perry messed with Cuba???

  • Broadhorizons

Perry is the next Donald Trump in this election. He will be laughed off the ticket when the time comes.

  • terry pagano

Our future looks quite dim. America will wither away ….  our republic will fall….

We have too many uneducated people in United States casting their votes on these puppets. We have too many politicians  looking out for themselves and their businesses. The division of the rich and the poor will further spread apart when Perry takes place in office. You all have been warned do your research before you cast your vote on these money scheming devils.

Perry is not and will never be there for the American people. He is only looking out for his best interest same goes for Romney. Ron Paul is a true candidate willing to stand for our constitution and willing to put an end to all of these nonsense debate on over spending and  wars.

Here’s what’s to come… we the United States of America are being manipulated into causing one of the biggest world wars in the next couple of years.  Many people will die and it will be the cause of your ignorance. Our economic collapse is very soon. Good luck to you all.

  • Willows30

Newt Gingrich will win the nomination.  Just listen and hear what he says.  I know he has baggage but he really is the best candidate.

  • Travismosely

CNN is blacking out Ron Paul, They didnt even have him as an option in their latest poll. I will be writing in Ron Paul, because Perry and Obamo are no different so it doesnt matter.

  • Travimosely

I will be writing in my vote for Ron Paul, I will not vote for the lesser of two evils. Honestly, I think Paul may win this, we just cant see any truth from CNN, MSNBC, ABC, they all want Perry to win because he is another progressive big government politician like Obuma.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jj-Wisniewski/100002654075475 Jj Wisniewski

At about the same point in time 4 years ago, Giuliani was the most electible. At this point in time, this poll means nothing. It’s too early to tell. There is a lot of emotion and passion out there. Cooler heads will begin to prevail in 6 months once Perry is fully vetted. But, the race will come down to Perry vs. Romney and in the end my money is on Romney. Perry was attacked by Bachmann and Palin, who are not going anywhere and only make Romney the obvious choice in the general election.

  • Anonymous

Rick Perry the Republican version Howard Dean of this cycle.  This cycle parallels the 2004 Democratic Field in so many ways:-Mitt Romney = John Kerry  (the qualified-on-paper-but-boring and awkward establishment choice)-Rick Perry = Howard Dean  (the blunt talking partisan who fires up the party’s base and surges in the polls…but likely to flame out later)-Huntsman = Joe Lieberman  (too moderate for the party’s base).

If you take away the jobs created by Obama he had a net loss.  He told people pray for rain, to stop the drought, where then his state started on FIRE. Euthanasia? please more tea hate.

  • Anonymous

    He is no John Kennedy.

If you know what that line means.

  • Moosenuts99

    SociAlist AND communist country? WOW!!

  • Tampa Bay Raise

In a related story, GOP voters found to be clinically stupid.

  • Tampa Bay Raise

To paraphrase Lloyd Bensen, I knew President Kennedy Gov. Perry, and you sir could not carry the sweat of his balls on your best day sir.

  • Anonymous

Please, please, please let it be Perry/Palin in 2012.  Oh happy day!  My bleeding heart is all a flutter.

  • Anonymous

I watched this debate on TV and I found fault with
all on stage, if I had to make a choice, I would chose Mitt Romney, I believe
most Republican voters would choose Mitt Romney because he speaks from his
heart, right or wrong, he is what he portrays himself to be, but the Republican
Caucus speaks from their bank account and there may be sparks when the caucus
can’t control Mitt Romney, I think the Tea Party and the Caucus proves that in everything
they say. It is funny what happens in Politics and the Financial World between
a person’s brain and his heart. It make us all laugh when we see a man going to
get the money so he can have a good life but when he gets the money, he throws
away the good life to get more money and dies without ever experiencing the good
life. You and I have seen this many times.

  • Sue

All of these guys are better than what we have right now. So whoever gets the nomination I will support and vote for.

  • Sue

    When were you born?

  • Mbwisper

Why is anyone still wondering who the GOP nominee is going to be? Especially now that the ever-idiotic Gov. Bobby Jindal has officially endorsed Perry…you remember when he himself was the new GOP poster boy, don’t you? Till he flubbed his post-State-of-the-Union comments and came off sounding like the dullard he is?….how can Perry NOT get the nomination with THAT kind of pull?! Personally, I hope it IS Perry, not only because I’m a gay man and think he’s just yummy, but because he’d be IMPOSSIBLE for Obama to defeat no matter how hard BOTH of them tried! Plus, I see Sarah Palin’s tossing her two cents in commenting on Blaaaachmann, evidently not realizing that no on care WHAT she has to say anymore since her position as Queen of the Morons has been usurped by La Michelle, though I must admit I would miss hearing her grating, nasally voice every now and then to remind me of how annoying she is.And what’swith Bachmann’s hair these  days anyway? They must’ve invented a whole new synthetic stay-in-place fabric just for her! I guess no one told her the ’60s are over and she can toss the hairspray! Yeah, I just LOVE the Republicans, don’t you?

  • Mbwisper

Oh, I’m sorry, I misread the title of this story…it’s “Most Electable”, NOT “Most DELECTABLE”! My bad! Well, Perry still gets my vote for Most Delectable…but THAT’S IT! To run this Country? I think not, unless we’re supposed to vote for someone to run it INTO THE GROUND! It to be his that case, he’s our guy! Maybe he could get Blaaaaachmann to be his Veep and they could run it together as co-pontifs!

  • Djbynum02

I caqn’t see how anyone cans support Perry. Perry executed a likely innocent man and fired the forensic commission who discovered new evidence.
Perry cut the Texas fire fighters 75% before the fires then tried to get them back.
Karl Rove says Perrys Social Security plan will not fly.
Dallas Morning News reported that Perry is no known for his problem solving or innovation.
Perry wanted Texas to secede from the United States but he didn’t have enough support.
Under Perry Texas has became the most poluted state.
Perry gutted Childcare Services–childhood poverty in Texas is 25 %.
Ann Coulter says Perry has made too many big mistakes.

The media keeps comparing hims to G Bush when he so clearly is similar to Reagan.

  • BooBoo Bear

God help America if Perry get’s elected.

  • Anonymous

Yes indeed. Reagan and Perry are both, actors with jet black hair. Impressive.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/William-Delano-Gaston/1051430158 William Delano Gaston

Wow.  If the “news” told you the sky was green you would believe that too?

Check the polls….RON PAUL is 7 points behind Romney.  How exactly is this a 2-horse race?????

But a more important question would be why in the F*** would you vote for Romney (Obama Jr.) or Rick Perry (Bush the 3rd)???

You hate our current foreign poicy, economy, and unemployment rate right???  We can all agree on this???  Then why would you want to vote for someone who is not promising anything different?

Perry’s job growth is a lie….170k of the jobs he “created” were government jobs. So what’s the point in that? Our taxes pay their salaries, thats no better than Obama and Bush’s stimulus plan!!!

  • Ekrisner

I wish you were right.  He’s probably the best qualified candidate.  But he’s probably also the least electable!!

“Most Electable”-The fact that this phrase is relevant is a great reason why this country is such a mess.  Who cares about who would do the best job when we can have someone that looks the part!
