Elementary School Forbids Kids From Wearing Trump Masks for Talent Show Dance
It is obvious that Donald Trump‘s omnipresence has reached its way into schools, and the reactions have ranged from hyper PC backlash to taunts against minorities. Now an elementary school in Massachusetts is caught up in the commotion, and they’ve decided that Trump’s mere visage is too much for a performance at a talent show.
Joseph E. Fiske Elementary School axed a dance show from three 11-year-olds who planned to wear comedically-yuge masks of the mogul’s face while they grooved to Crazy Frog’s “Axel F”. The kids hoped this would be a sequel to a routine they did last year, where they came to be known as the “Bobblehead Boys’ after dancing with masks of their retiring principal.
The boys performed for a dress rehearsal last Wednesday, but administrators received complaints afterwards and the boys were forced to choose between their masks or going on stage. As Maryellen Maggiacomo explained on behalf of her twins, Marc and David, “the bobblehead is the act,” and the dance was scraped.
“They were not making a political statement. They just wanted to dance with a funny head,” said Laurie Mattaliano, mother of the third dancer, Christian. “No words were spoken. It’s just pop culture. The skit took no stance in support or defamation.”
Boston Globe asked Wellesley Superintendent David Lussier about the cancellation, and his explanation was “it’s so important for us to be seen as nonpartisan in a highly charged election environment.” He also stated that a Trump-Marco Rubio themed skit was also nixed.
Looks like the Freedom Kids won’t have any dancing competition after all.
