Eric Garner’s Mother, Widow Condemn NYPD Murders

Eric Garner‘s mother and widow condemned the brutal murders of two NYPD officers on Saturday at the hands of Ismaaiyl Abdullah Brinsley, who reportedly invoked Garner in an Instagram post before the shooting. Both said that violence is an unacceptable form of protest.

“My husband was not a violent man,” Esaw Garner said. “We don’t want violence connected to his name.”

“Anyone who’s standing with us, we want you to not use Eric Garner’s name for violence because we are not about that,” Garner’s mother, Gwen Carr, said. “I’m standing here in sorrow about losing those two police officers.”

MSNBC host Rev. Al Sharpton echoed the Garner family in a statement released shortly after the shooting in which he decried the invocation of Garner and Michael Brown to justify killing police officers, calling it “reprehensible and against the pursuit of justice in both cases.”

One CNN guest said Sharpton “got what he wanted” with two dead police officers.
