GOP Turning on Sessions? Jason Chaffetz Says AG Should ‘Recuse Himself’

Jason Chaffetz (R-UT), the chairman of the House Oversight Committee, is the latest GOPer to say that Attorney General Jeff Sessions ought to recuse himself from any investigation into President Trump‘s connection to Russia.
Sessions has come under major scrutiny recently amid reports that he spoke to Russia’s Ambassador to the U.S. twice during the 2016 election, the fact of which he then failed to disclose during his Senate confirmation hearing. Sessions has responded to the news by saying that the remarks are “unbelievable” and “false,” though he suggested that he would consider recusing himself from a Justice Department investigation into the matter.
In response to all of this, Chaffetz has tweeted that Sessions’s top priority should be to save himself:
AG Sessions should clarify his testimony and recuse himself

The news has prompted an outcry from many high-ranking Democrats who say that Sessions should stand aside from any inquires made into the Trump campaign’s contact with Russian officials. Similar concerns have been echoed from several Republican figures as well, including Senator Lindsey Graham, Senator John McCain, House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, and now Chaffetz.
