It’s Final: Gawker is Getting Grabbed Up by Univision for This Much Cash…
After Gawker went bankrupt following their disastrous loss to Hulk Hogan/Peter Thiel in court, it was widely assumed that Ziff Davis would take over the controversial blog conglomerate. For a few days, though, there have been whispers that Gawker’s future is not so concrete. Today, a report came out claiming Univision was challenging Ziff Davis for the company and now we can confirm that Univision won.
For $135 million dollars, Nick Denton‘s baby is being snatched up by the media corporation, according to Recode. Ziff Davis had offered up $90 million. Recode explained it like this:
The deal won’t be official for a bit. For starters, a US bankruptcy court judge needs to sign off on the transaction. When it is final, the funds will be set aside, while Gawker appeals its court case; eventually the money will go to the side that wins.
Whether this will affect the editorial style of the seven sites under the Gawker umbrella remains to be seen.
