Jimmy Carter has publicly opposed the Obama administration on a few foreign policy issues, and in a new interview in TIME magazine, he takes a shot at Hillary Clinton for not doing much in the way of Middle East peace during her tenure at the State Department.
He reiterates his belief that the United States is the “number one warmonger on earth,” saying that “ever since the United Nations was formed after the Second World War, the United States has almost constantly been at war somewhere.” He credits John Kerry for the work he’s done as Secretary of State, and while he said weeks ago President Obama has not solicited him for advice, he does have the occasional correspondence with Kerry. Carter even contrasts what Kerry’s been getting done with how Clinton handled world affairs.
“When Secretary Clinton was Secretary of State, she took very little action to bring about peace. It was only John Kerry’s coming into office that reinitiated all these very important and crucial issues.”
He says he’s told Kerry not to “deviate from longstanding international law that has always been observed by the United States” and nations around the world.
