Look Who’s Coming To Lunch: Media Matters Pays $86,000 To Dine With Rupert Murdoch
Sorry, all those who had bid on Rupert Murdoch‘s companionship. The auction for a “friendly lunch” with the News Corp. CEO ended today, and the winner is… wait for it… Media Matters. Womp womp.
CharityBuzz.com listed the item, giving “budding entrepreneurs” a chance to “propose business ideas” to Murdoch over lunch. The lunch, apparently valued at a cool $15,000, ended up fetching $86,000 from Media Matters. For those already reaching for their abacuses, don’t worry—math says that the media watchdog group still has $914,000 of George Soros‘ money.
The meal will be in New York and has yet to be scheduled, but it’s been confirmed that David Brock, Media Matters’ founder-slash-president, will be there, along with five of his guests. And while the lunch is advertised as “friendly,” it’s hard to believe that it won’t end up being a little contentious and a lot awkward.
