Lost In Translation? Penelope Cruz, Javier Bardem Having An “Anchor Baby,” Says Fox News Latino

What, one wonders, is an “anchor baby?”

That’s the headline on Fox News Latino, a website that delivers English language news content of interest to Spanish speakers: “Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem Are Having an Anchor Baby.” Huh? It could be a news stunt–putting an adorable infant in the anchor chair in the hopes of boosting ratings–or, it could be a screwup.

Fox News Latino reporter Alexandra Gratereaux‘s story about Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem‘s soon-to-be-born baby makes no mention of an anchor deal–at Fox News or anywhere else.

It does, however, talk about disappointment in Spain that the most-likely-beautiful baby will be born an American citizen in Los Angeles, where the star couple have a home in Hollywood.

If anybody knows what an “anchor baby” might mean in Spanish, please let us know. Until we hear different, we’re thinking “anchor” might be a typographically challenged way of saying “American?”

You can put a lipstick on a pig, but it’s still a darn pig. Fox is a piece of crap in whatever sort of media they are involved with. It’s still the same ‘Murdoch’s’ crap.

Mediaite, this was a stupid article. We all know what an anchor baby is and I’m pretty sure if people are reading Fox News in any language, they know what an anchor baby is too. We all know how much they loooove to talk about them.

I hear ya. I’m a senior in college right now. I don’t qualify for financial aid because my parents make too much money. I pay full tuition except for whatever I can get through scholarships and have since I started. While I was going to school in California, I paid full price while if you were an illegal or the child of an illegal, you could get gas cards, food vouchers, lower priced parking permits, books paid for, fees waived. Anything. So yes, I’m a proud liberal, but I also believe in fairness and the rule of law. I understand better than lots of people the price of taking care of illegals and it really sucks.

I am concerned about the anchors, but even more concerned about the other ‘mama, papa and 6 sibling’ anchors that will come with their citizenship.
