Rep. Keith Ellison Gives Emotional Testimony About Muslim First Responder

video

Rep. Peter King‘s congressional hearings on radical Muslims in the America has been a controversial subject across the political spectrum. King argues that, in the interest of American security, its important to look into any or all efforts made by Al Qaeda to recruit U.S. citizens. Critics believe that this singling out will only lead to more ill-will towards the US by the Muslim world, and that an examination of extremism should include all stripes, not just Muslims.

But Rep. Keith Ellison (D-NY), who is also a practicing Muslim, added a thoughtful perspective with an emotional testimony about a Muslim first responder who lost his life in 9/11.

Can it , Ellison . You’re locked in with ‘em .

“An Ellison speech on behalf of Olson, in which he called the terrorist a freedom fighter, has been eliminated from most websites, including one devoted to her legal defense, but a Minneapolis blogger who followed the case saved and posted it. One notices the lavish praise that Ellison bestows not only on Olson, also known as Kathleen Ann Soliah, but to Bernardine Dohrn, the former leader of the communist terrorist Weather Underground. Ellison also praised cop-killers Mumia Abu-Jamal, on death row in Pennsylvania, and Joanne Chesimard (aka Assata Shakur), who escaped the U.S. and is now living under the protection of the Castro dictatorship.”

This notorious record suggests that if Ellison had trouble recognizing the nature of terrorism when the radical left carried it out on American soil, he may have a similar blind spot when it comes to members of his own religious group.

Excellent point, guys! If we’re going to look at terrorism and extremism, we need to look at EVERYONE, that way the information gets muddled, and we can’t really talk about anything specific!

It’s important to try to keep these hearings vague. No point in learning anything useful from any of this. Nope… if you’re going to talk about Muslim Extremism (which isn’t a real threat, except in the sense that these hearings are going to encourage more of it… this makes sense, don’t think about it, just accept it), you must also talk about every other type of extremism… or we risk hurting the feelings of the extremists (although, again they don’t exist, except as a result of this hearing).

And despite everyone involved with the hearing saying and agreeing that “we’re not targeting all Muslims,” and “most Muslims are peaceful, law abiding citizens,” and “we’re just trying to find the root cause of this particular type of extremism, and what we can do to prevent it,” don’t believe them. Instead, let’s impose our own “decision” (ie: spin to damage Republicans) about what these ‘hearings’ really mean.

It’s better to learn nothing from hearings like this, than to learn how to better protect our country. And only later, if something actually happens, we’ll just blame Republicans and Tea Partiers anyway. So what have we got to lose?!

    /sarcasm

(Hmm… still not sure I made it outlandish enough. Gotta keep trying.)

I disagree. It’s not that they “hate America.” That’s too simplistic.

The problem is the left inherently (for some reason) is compelled to “fight for the little guy.” And while that sounds good… the problem is, “the little guy” isn’t always correct. So in a fight between “Muslims” and “America,” they’re going to side with “Muslims,” because they’re the “little guy.”

I believe they really thing they’re doing the moral and just thing… but their blanket logic for “the little guy” doesn’t make sense.

I don’t believe they want anyone to die, but many people on the left have a seriously distorted view of the world. Since they stupidly regard Islam as a race of brown people rather than a religion, and everyone and his dog knows what an unhealthy relationship the left has with race, they would rather stick their heads in the sand than confront Islamic extremism. It’s why true blue lefties like Christopher Hitchens are now mistaken for conservatives when they are not in any way, shape or form conservative.

So, the Massacre of “Gentile” men, women, children and babies at Mountain Meadow, in the name of Mormonism, was not objectionable because the death count was lower? But, on a per capita basis, it was higher . A count in the upper 90% range …. So, just to make sure, I understand, murdering a hundred or so men, women, children and babies is acceptable, as long as the Prophet of the Day says it is?

When is the last time a Mormon flew planes into buildings or fired into crowds of innocent people yelling “alah akbar!!!!!!!!”

When is the last time a Mormon slashed somebody’s throat and posted it on the internet?

Right. The classic Mormon massacre method is shooting people as they are fleeing.

    The account, in summary form:

After the Fancher party left Cedar City, frustrated with the refusal of local Mormons to sell them needed goods, they continued southwest through the mountain pass called Mountain Meadows. There they were attacked by Mormon assailants, some of them killed. The remaining emigrants pulled their wagons into a tight circle for protection. Over the next five days, the emigrants were held at siege in their wagon circle. During this period they were attacked two more times.

On September 11, 1857, John D. Lee entered the wagon circle with a white flag, convincing the emigrants to surrender peacefully. Required to put down their guns, the women and children were escorted out first, then the men and boys. Each man and boy was escorted by an armed militiaman.

They walked about a mile when, upon a predetermined signal, the militiamen turned and fired on each man and boy. Indians who had been convinced to participate in the massacre came out from their hiding places to attack the women and children.

Interesting, it’s nice to see all of you who are supporting a terrorist sympathizer and supporter, you are all showing your faces clearly now.

Interesting… I don’t actually recall saying anything to that effect! Hold on, let me re-read what I wrote.

Oh, okay… I see it now. Apparently, my asking how your criticism of King then, equates or is relevant to anything now, was too confusing to actually answer truthfully… so you needed to deflect and suggest that I was saying something I wasn’t. I see how it works!

But here’s what I’ll do for you… no, it is not okay to blow up “Brits, Unionists, women and children, because they’re not America.” Furthermore, it was wrong (provided it actually did happen, forgive me for not just accepting your word for it) to support a group that encourages or is responsible for such actions… like the IRA.

HOWEVER, that does not necessarily preclude someone, IMO, from holding hearings on another set of terrorists (Muslim extremists), specifically ones with a goal of hurting Americans. So back to my original question… why do you think it is?

Let’s see if you can do me the same favor, and answer that for me.

This is where I have to give Lawrence O’Donnell some credit. My only question is, which scares him more: violent reprisal from Muslim extremists, or being shunned by his fellow lefties like Juan Williams is?

Well one of them sent this email to Republican’s:

Please put your things in order because you will be killed and your familes
will also be killed due to your actions in the last 8 weeks. Please explain
to them that this is because if we get rid of you and your families then it
will save the rights of 300,000 people and also be able to close the deficit
that you have created. I hope you have a good time in hell. Read below for
more information on possible scenarios in which you will die.

WE want to make this perfectly clear. Because of your actions today and in
the past couple of weeks I and the group of people that are working with me
have decided that we’ve had enough. We feel that you and the people that
support the dictator have to die. We have tried many other ways of dealing
with your corruption but you have taken things too far and we will not stand
for it any longer. So, this is how it’s going to happen: I as well as many
others know where you and your family live, it’s a matter of public records.
We have all planned to assult you by arriving at your house and putting a
nice little bullet in your head. However, we decided that we wouldn’t leave
it there. We also have decided that this may not be enough to send the
message to you since you are so “high” on Koch and have decided that you are
now going to single handedly make this a dictatorship instead of a
demorcratic process. So we have also built several bombs that we have placed
in various locations around the areas in which we know that you frequent.
This includes, your house, your car, the state capitol, and well I won’t
tell you all of them because that’s just no fun. Since we know that you are
not smart enough to figure out why this is happening to you we have decided
to make it perfectly clear to you. If you and your goonies feel that it’s
necessary to strip the rights of 300,000 people and ruin their lives, making
them unable to feed, clothe, and provide the necessities to their families
and themselves then We Will “get rid of” (in which I mean kill) you. Please
understand that this does not include the heroic Rep. Senator that risked
everything to go aganist what you and your goonies wanted him to do. We feel
that it’s worth our lives to do this, because we would be saving the lives
of 300,000 people. Please make your peace with God as soon as possible and
say goodbye to your loved ones we will not wait any longer. YOU WILL DIE!!!!

Yes, it is simplistic. But again, I’m not talking about “loving America.” I believe this is an over-arching philosophy that is somewhat unique to the left. Helping the “little guy.” It’s almost like a hero complex… a need to rescue the damsel in distress. I think when evaluating a situation, a left-winger is more likely to see the situation in terms of “little or big” and make their decision to support one over the other based on that.

We have all planned to assult you by arriving at your house and putting a nice little bullet in your head. However, we decided that we wouldn’t leave it there. We also have decided that this may not be enough to send the message to you since you are so “high” on Koch and have decided that you are now going to single handedly make this a dictatorship instead of a demorcratic process. So we have also built several bombs that we have placed in various locations around the areas in which we know that you frequent. This includes, your house, your car, the state capitol, and well I won’t tell you all of them because that’s just no fun. Since we know that you are not smart enough to figure out why this is happening to you we have decided to make it perfectly clear to you. If you and your goonies feel that it’s necessary to strip the rights of 300,000 people and ruin their lives, making them unable to feed, clothe, and provide the necessities to their families and themselves then We Will “get rid of” (in which I mean kill) you. Please understand that this does not include the heroic Rep. Senator that risked everything to go aganist what you and your goonies wanted him to do. We feel that it’s worth our lives to do this, because we would be saving the lives of 300,000 people. Please make your peace with God as soon as possible and say goodbye to your loved ones we will not wait any longer.

Again, America just happens to be the topic often… but it’s not necessarily (IMO) about America.

OKay. Thanks for the explanation. I think it’s a valid point in a general way. I think there might be several over arching philosophies that we might find more often in the left or right, that aren’t necessarily a matter of right or wrong, simply a tendency towards something.

Ellison is a shit stirrer who doesn’t know how many problems he will be putting into the political discourse about Muslims. He probably believes this will get him reelected by the many anti-Muslim bigots among evangelicals. It’s interesting that the kleft in this country and seemingly many on this board seem to think that:

All was cool with the Muslims until 1947 and the Balfour act created Isreal.
They had no beef until we started supporting Jews.
They didn’t hate us until we helped the Brits overthrow Mosaddeq in Iran.
They had no beef until we started getting their oil.
they had no beef until we came to liberate Kuwait.

Perhaps if you spent more time in a history book and less time jacking your jibs here you would know that the Islam – western civilzation divide has been around since the 20′s. You might peep a book written by a guy some refer to as the grandfather of the Muslim Brotherhood…..his brother radicalized OBL’s #2 guy al-Zawahiri in SA……called Milestones. The man is Sayyid Qutb. He was educated here and then returned to Egypt to forment terror with his MB pals. It eventually cost him his freedom and then his life.

Milestones as well as other Qutb musings are VERY enlightening.

He found us bourgeois. He railed on our “allowing” women to attend church with their families……more to the point….their men. He was agast at diplays of public affection like those vertibale porn acts like hand holding and kissing. He even railed about us mowing our yards.

When he returned to the ME he joined up with the MB with other like minded Muslims in decrying the creep of the west. They were aghast at the progressive nature of places like Cairo and Lebanon. They sought to prevent ME people from joining the 20th century while miring them in 6th century barbarism.

I also find it interesting that few mention that during WWII the MB and other like minded Muslims joined up with the Third Reich and Hitler. But they are NOT bad guys.

I appreciated what Ellison had to say. Here’s the transcript,

    http://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2011/03/keith-ellisons-testimony-at-the-muslim-radicalization-hearing/72294/

I think he left out the last as he got emotional
“Mr. Hamdani bravely sacrificed his life to try and help others on 9/11. After the tragedy some people tried to smear his character solely because of his Islamic faith. Some people spread false rumors and speculated that he was in league with the attackers only because he was Muslim. It was only when his remains were identified that these lies were fully exposed.

Mohammed Salman Hamdani was a fellow American who gave his life for other Americans. His life should not be defined as a member of an ethnic group or a member of a religion, but as an American who gave everything for his fellow citizens.

Mohammed Salman Hamdani is us. He is every American. He is our neighbor. If we make him the problem, we all lose. If we engage him in the solution, America and the world will be a more vibrant, safer place for us and our children.”

    THE REAL ROYAL KING said:
Right. The classic Mormon massacre method is shooting people as they are fleeing. The account, in summary form: After the Fancher party left Cedar City, frustrated with the refusal of local Mormons to sell them needed goods, they continued southwest through the mountain pass called Mountain Meadows. For further reading: http://mountainmeadowsmassacre.com/

Wow you only had to go back 164 years to dredge this up.

And before you blow a gasket……yes it was wrong for them to kill those people. Were a single one of those who did the deeds alive today I would hold them down so you could skin them.

But we don’t have to travel back a hundred plus years to find the latest example of Muslim murder now do we?

Maybe yours is simply an issue with timing. You need to get back to 1857 and start a hearing.

Washington was a SLAVE OWNER, Voice. He didn’t release his slaves until after his own death. Second, read up on the history of Washington having Black troops serve in the Continental Army. He only allowed it because he was RUNNING OUT OF TROOPS:

“By the end of the war about ten percent of General Washington’s army would be “people of color.” (About three to five thousand people of color would fight for America.) This would be remarkable in two aspects. First, many enslaved blacks had little faith they would be given their freedom at the end of the war. After all, the only thing these substitute soldiers and runaway slaves had to trust in would be the word and good intentions of their master or of other whites. Secondly, General Washington made a proclamation at Cambridge in 1775, that neither free blacks nor slaves would be allowed to join the Continental Army, despite their early involvement in the war as Minutemen.”

Bullshit. Several of the colonies had moved to abolish slavery before we even declared independence. the King vetoes that notion. In fact 6 of the 13 colonies moved to abolish slavery the minute we declared. the hero of Bunker Hill was a black man. Peter Salem. Washington PERSONALLY honored his bravery.

And Pastor Lemuel Haynes was involved in several major Revolutionary battles and became an ardent admirer of George Washington, regularly preaching sermons on Washington’s birthday. This patriot preacher was the first African American to be ordained by a mainstream Christian denomination (the Congregationalists, in 1785), to pastor a white congregation (a congregation in Connecticut), and to be awarded an honorary Master’s Degree (by Middlebury College, in 1804). Yet who today has heard of Lemuel Haynes?

Or who has heard of James Armistead, the courageous spy at Yorktown whose remarkable service considerably shortened the War? Or Oliver Cromwell and Prince Whipple (depicted in several famous Revolutionary War paintings) who served directly under General Washington and the general staff? Or Jordan Freeman, the gallant soldier to whom a monument was erected for his heroic service at the Battle of Groton Heights?

What I woke up this morning to hear was not something I wanted my children ever to see or hear or read. Today I saw my country move backward towards ignorance. And I am reading that too many weak ass white people have to gaul to explain american history as them blacks did it too.
I am frustrated with the willingness of ignorant minds to hide from the shame that continued to support in america.
I am feed up with these poor representative of white people continueing the shame that too many rightouse white people give their lives to cut loose and remove from the american dialog.
The conversation is about an american elected representative name Representative Ellis who just happens to be of the faith of Muslim had to come before his peers and plea not to allow this nation to move away from progress. And the only voice the rejected the conversation was representative from Texas Jackson while others just wiped the tears from their eyes and not give her Rep. Jackson a second rejection. King has done more to recruit for Al Queda then any organization on this planet can do. King like many ignorant and insecure white men have a problem with people who not pleasing with their eyes and will destroy them along with themselves…this hate has caused enough problems for america in our journey to eI xpand progressive positive caring ideas. The state of New York if so serious should ask for the inquiry into organizations of hate like Nazi and KKK and other military hate america groups and clean up there…if this caucus is about terrorizism then wiping this but stain of hate groups clean would be the best example of showing the world we are serious about hate groups and terror organizations in america.
I love my white relatives that have married into my family and I love my mix race mate…I do not want my mixed race children growing up believing that there is something wrong with them because of the bad examples of white men presented in the media today. Does that mean, in the interest of fairness, we should turn a blind eye toward terrorism? No, of course not. Don’t be idiotic. But given that the 2011 budget for the Dept. of Homeland Security alone is $56.3 billion and that their stated mission #1 is to find and eliminate exactly this kind of fundamentalist threat, from bomb detection right on down to recruitment inside our borders — and given that we’re not even talking here about the billions spent by the FBI, CIA, and Pentagon on exactly these same issues both here and abroad — what the hell is a Congressional committee even doing, delving into this area at all?

We can’t possibly believe they’ll be effective. Look how unsuccessful they were in “investigating” the original 9/11 issues, the Clinton Impeachment B.S., Iran-Contra, the Kennedy Assassination (the Warren Report was practically considered comedy)… and heck, while we’re at it, why not draw the most accurate analogy, the McCarthy anti-Communist witch hunt.

Let’s see your list of Christian terrorists since 1980.

Please, stop being ridiculous. Again, the point is not that they’re Islamic groups. It’s that they’re terrorists groups. Do many of them also adhere to Islam? Yes, they do. At least to their own bastardized version of it. But if your agenda is to stop terrorism, you won’t do it by first trying to stop Islam.

Whether or not there are Christian terrorists — like those that bomb abortion clinics or shoot doctors (please don’t tell me you consider that ‘freedom fighting’), ran the lynch mobs of the 19th and 20th century South, ran the witch hunts in Salem, or ran the Crusades — is irrelevant. Does the fact that those existed and did what they did in the name of Christ, damn all Christians before or after or damn the real Christian message itself?

    No, of course not.

Yet even now you’ll find Christian war-mongers, Christians who believe it’s wrong to spend money to help the sick or hungry, Christians who fight for gun rights, and more. Is it their Christianity that makes them pursue those agendas? Of course not. It’ something else, something that’s the antitheses of what Christ preached.

Likewise, lots of Catholic priests are now clearly guilty of molesting children. Should that damn all Catholics? Or the inverse, should it protect those priests because they’re Christian and NOT Muslim? No, again. Of course not. That too would be idiotic. Catholic or not, condemn the abuse. And many have, including members of the Catholic community. Yes, that problem is still widespread. How would we feel, though, if Congress called a special investigation to focus on all things Catholic? It would never fly.

    – Or how about the short list of Christian Terrorists groups compared to this one:

Again, completely irrelevant to Ellison’s message.

Let’s try this… I’m guessing you lean politically toward the right, yes?

So how far do you think it is for me to say that if you lean right, you’re a hate-mongering, violent, bigot? Be clear… I’m not saying you are… but, based on your logic, how else am I supposed to interpret the fact that these organizations are also right leaning?

    .
The Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States were built upon ideas that had never been used for societies to order and govern themselves. Just the concept that “men are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights” was anathema to millenia of human history.

Up until that time societies were ordered around the idea that kings/rulers had their power by divine right. All power belonged to the state thatthey then parceled out or withheld at their WHIM.

Just b/c that idea is now 250 years old does not negate the sheer power, beauty and righteousness of it. By the same token they were still men of their times and were blind to certain things that seem so obvious to us.

You can denigrate and ridicule all you want but I am in awe that so small a country that had just carved a territory out of wilderness produced so many brilliant men who accomplished so much.

I’ll never bring it up or engage you on this subject again. This says it all for me.

“SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) – A man accused of trying to bomb a Martin Luther King Jr. Day parade was an avid poster on a white supremacist Internet forum, where he referenced bomb-making and alluded to attacking anti-racist demonstrators, a national organization that tracks hate groups said Thursday.

The Southern Poverty Law Center said Kevin Harpham, 36, made more than 1,000 postings on the Vanguard News Network site, many of them under the pseudonym “Joe Snuffy.”

“I can’t wait till the day I snap,” said a 2006 message attributed to Harpham.

He was arrested on Wednesday after being charged with one count of attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction and one count of possessing an unregistered explosive in a case that raised worries racist activities may be on the rise again in the region, once a hotbed for hate groups.”

“The Lord commands: “… slay old men outright, young men and maidens, little children and women” (Ezechial 9:4-6)

“When the Lord delivers it into your hand, put to the sword all the males …. As for the women, the children, the livestock and everything else in the city, you may take these as plunder for yourselves.” (Deuteronomy 20:13-14)

“You will eat the fruit of the womb, the flesh of the sons and daughters the Lord your God has given you.” (Deuteronomy 28:53)

“… Go and smite the inhabitants of Jabesh-gilead with the edge of the sword and; also the women and little ones…. every male and every woman that has lain with a male you shall utterly destroy.” (Judges 21:10-12)

“This is what the Lord says: Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have; do not spare them, but kill both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass …. And Saul … utterly destroyed all the people with the edge of the sword.” (1 Samuel 15:3,7-8)

Of course what the politician, and Mediaite for that matter, fail to mention is that Salman Hamdani was specifically mentioned in the Patriot Act regarding Muslim Americans that were heros on that tuesday morning in September. The act specifically states:
“Many Arab Americans and Muslim Americans have acted heroically during the attacks on the United States, including Mohammed Salman Hamdani, a 23-year-old New Yorker of Pakistani descent, who is believed to have gone to the World Trade Center to offer rescue assistance and is now missing.”

So Ellison was just telling lies, and passing rumors. And Colby Hall also fails to do his research or make a correction.

    You’re arguing against documented history.

“African Americans – free, slave, and ex-slave – fought side by side with white colonists seeking independence from British domination. GEORGE WASHINGTON, as Commander of the Continental Army, forbade the enlistment of Blacks – free, slave, or ex-slave – during the early stages of the war. He later learned that the Royal Governor of Virginia, John Murray, Earl of Dunmore, was enlisting slaves and indentured servants into the British army with the promise of “freedom to all slaves who would join the King’s army.” Dunmore’s tactic of lifting the ban on Blacks enlisting in the British army led George Washington to change his mind, and, therefore, Blacks later joined the CONTINENTAL ARMED FORCES.”

    http://www2.liu.edu/cwis/cwp/library/aaffsfl.htm#AMREV

That brave Blacks like Crispus Attucks died for a nation that didn’t treat them as equals is a testimony to THEIR courage, not the cowardly racism and bigotry of slave-owners like George Washington.
