Retardgate II: Palin Camp Responds To Limbaugh’s Use Of “Retard”
As reported earlier today, Sarah Palin is using her Facebook page to denounce Rahm Emanuel’s casual and pejorative use of “retarded” on the president’s detractors. Yesterday Rush Limbaugh got in the act, flaunting the “political correct” movement by repeatedly using the more offensive term “retard.” This was reported last night by Keith Olbermann, who asked why Palin hasn’t yet come down on Limbaugh? Let’s hope that this story is only getting started because it could be really fun.
Olbermann opens the segment by astutely asking his viewers “so who would you root for if Rush Limbaugh battled Sarah Palin?” A delightful premise to be sure, if only because the fireworks would be astounding. Does Sarah Palin call out Limbaugh and risk losing his supporters? If she doesn’t she will look rather weak in the eyes of her critics. Does Limbaugh apologize for his use of the term that many find offensive? Probably not. Its like the immovable object versus the unstoppable force. Something has got to give!
Update – Greg Sargent reports on his blog that a Palin spokesperson was asked of Limbaugh’s comments and said “Governor Palin believes crude and demeaning name calling at the expense of others is disrespectful.”

Why did you bring this up? We all know Rush is not accountable.
Colby, casual? Most media reports state he was pissed off at the time, therefore this was not a casual thing but said in the heat of the moment. It appears you are trying to blow it all off as meaningless.
It’s good to see your infatuation with Keith still burns strong….Bathtub Boy 2?
Laughable; I see Colby, Olby, Carlson and Andrea Mitchell are all on the same page and clearly none of them listened to Rush.
I think people really need to read the Rush transcript from that show. his whole premise is the hypocrisy in the left *the party that cares about these people* but yet we keep getting these examples of them using demeaning terms, and getting a pass when they do.
case in point – Olbermann goes after Rush, and tries to pit Rush vs. Palin, but where’s the special comment, or worst person in the world for Rahm? Instead of addressing Rahm’s use of the word, he focuses on these two.

I don’t approve of the rant, but he was making a point, and using the word on purpose, to prove the point that Olbermann fell for.
You could see this coming a mile away. Limbaugh spent time ahead of the comments saying that he would be using the term specifically because Rahm had used it, and assured that he (Limbaugh) would get in more controversey than Emanuel. Right on cue the over-reationaries on the Left took the bait and ran with it.
All day yesterday defenders of Rahm on the Left came out and said it was no big deal, it was a non-issue, it was fabricated outrage. So Limbaugh purposefully used the same language and now the same individuals are crying to the stars for Palin to do something about this “non-issue”. Too funny.
Yes, yes, yes. The usual apologias by the usual apologists. When Rush does something which seems inappropriate, there’s nothing wrong with it, because:
(1) It was humor. If you didn’t understand that, you’re humorless.
(2) You don’t understand what I am saying because you’ve been brainwashed by:
(a) The Clinton/Obama/Pelosi/Reid lyingfesto.
(b) Liberal college professors.
(c) Your liberal mother.
(d) The drive-by media.
(3) I was under the influence of prescription drugs.
(4) Political correctness did it.
(5) You obviously weren’t listening.
Take a number, any number, now back to the Sideshow.
>I don’t approve of the rant, but he was making a point, and using the word on purpose, to prove the point that Olbermann fell for.
I wonder if you still would’ve defended Limbaugh if he had used the n-word to make the same point.
Right King, once again we are all simple dolts basking in your devine intellect – although if you were so supremely gifted you would be able to post something besides stating how smart you are.
This is not apologizing for Rush, it is pointing out that he purposefully does this to provoke the exact reaction from the media that took place. He called it ahead of time, he said he was saying it to make the press lose their minds, and they lose their minds over him right on cue. But someone as smart as you already knew that.
yes, i would. See Martini’s comment above.
Colby?
Headline….”shockingly crass”….
Limbaugh was just pointing out all of the LIB HATE that is spewed from the awful mouth of the LEFT WING HATE MACHINE on a DAILY BASIS!!1 Why won’t they just LEAVE TRIG ALONE??!!1
You can justify anything..Rahm used the word “RETARDED”, like alot of us HAVE..schoolboy BS (and NOT cool!). Moron and imbecile are clinical terms, but we use them (not cool!).
Ok, Sarah, thanks for bringing it to out attention, because YOU ARE RIGHT. It IS offensive, and it is an infantile, base way to taunt, totally unkind to the people and their families who LIVE this.
I DO think Palin SHOULD address Rush, though…she SHOULD be consistant. I mean she is ONLY on Facebook and she has people who write the stuff in the first place, so she should to show a sort of earnestness on her part and post something on her FB page in to reference Limbaugh, ALSO TOO, using the word “RETARD”.
People who have never agreed with Palin DO agree with her this. THE LEFT is sympathetic to what Palin expressed…because it isn’t one of two stepping LIES that usually pops out of her mouth.
If she isn’t JUST doing this RAHM thing because it was a slow day on FACEBOOK, she SHOULD call out the fat man! If Palin didn’t do this to grandstand then BE OFFENDED, SARAH…be offended again and call Rush out.
I doubt Rush would have used the “t” word like Colby did.
TRRK – You got it exactly right. Limbaugh, Beck suggesting something inappropriate? Of course not; and you outlined their protocol perfectly. Hey man its just a joke!! Better still, someone made me do it!!
The American Association on Mental Retardation changed its name in 2007 to the American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities.
So Keith Olbermann is not retarded — he is intellectually disabled.
We should try to help him, not criticize him — he suffers from a variation of Tourette syndrome, and cannot control the stupidly inflammatory words that come out of his pie hole.
Everything MartiniShark said is true.
Colby Hall, were you hoping that we would make you the object of furor rather than Rush, and then you’d sit up and go “aha!”? :D
Palin, Look in the mirror. I beleive you said your “Retarded Son”.
Yep. Cause Levi Johnston says it’s so, then it must be true.

That is disgusting. I hope Mediaite removes that filth.
Sara, I saw your reference to this at the Sullivan thread.
FYI I just Emailed Mediaite the following:
Comment No. 20 on the thread Retardgate II by Colby Hall by Duc du Berry volates any normal standards of civilty and decency, in my opinion.
Thanks for your consideration,
Grammie
I’m surprised the Duc du berry comment hasn’t been deleted.
BTW: Palin calls BS on your update; her statement was NOT in response to Rush’s comments, as her spokesperson has made clear.
The attempts by left wing media to divert the attention to Rush from Rham just isn’t working anywhere except in left wing circles. I expect Rush will talk about this tomorrow, and we’ll see another snippit from his show, distorting what he said.
“It hardly has the passion of her response to Rahm, and there’s no call for him to step down. But given Rush’s stature among conservatives, it’s pretty interesting that she went this far, denouncing his on-air rant as “crude and demeaning name-calling.”
Greg Sargent is spot on and so was Countdown tonight!
Duc Du Berry – Point made. You people who show phony outrage don’t understand humor. It was just a joke, get it? No? Shit.
The comment in question has been removed and that user has been banned from further commenting on the site. Thanks very much guys for pointing it out.
Thank you!
Ditto
Rush made similar fun when Reid’s remarks on Obama’s skin color and dialect, but he was smart enough not to actually go out and say the “N” word, lest Sharpton, Jackson, and the whole race industry come down on him. Sadly, people are not as sensitive about using the words “retard” or “retarded”. However, Rush did know the fallout that would ensue, and he called it 100%. Reid and Emmanuel can say what they want with hardly a slap on the wrist as consequence, yet Rush and Beck have to be crucified.
The phony outrage is what was pouring out of the collective donut slots of Olbermann, Slate, Huffington, and numerous others. They all stood up for Rahm and declared his statement was not offensive and outcry over his choice of words was a manufactured anger. Then one day later these same sources demanded that Limbaugh be taken to task for uttering an unoffensive phrase.
Once again, -Olbermann raises a non-issue. Mr. Limbaugh in contention with Sarah Palin is NOT going to happen. All -Olbermann is trying to do is divert attention (and justified wrath) from Rahm Emmanuel for making a sick remark–FOR WHICH HE SHOULD BE FIRED.
I happened to be listening to Rush as he set up the “retard” comment after five minutes of comment on how Zsa Zsa Huffington had called out Glenn Beck for using “slaughtered” and rebuked Roger Ailes for not rebuking GB. Of course, Beck was using a metaphor for economic train wreck, not a physical murder, but Zsa Zsa doesn’t look at context. Ailes knows that debating a hopeless repository of cant and finger-pointing like Ms. Stassinopoulos in front of Barbara Walters is a fruitless task. Never stops Zsa Zsa from continuing to make a fool of herself.
Rush also noted how Tweety-bird Matthews skated past his egregious solecism of “for an hour I forgot he was black,” something which if emitted from the ingestion orifices of a conservative, would have been a five-alarm “panic attack” among the blogospheric JournoList mimics & wannabes. Rush didn’t have the punchline that John Stewart threw at Tweety “Matthews is one scotch away from Ron Burgundy,” but the point was taken by the saner precincts of the center-left.
Along with Keith-O who is hemorrhaging viewers by the trainload on a nightly basis, Matthews’ ratings are falling behind Joy Behar, who is his better both intellectually and educationally with her M.A. from Stonybrook. Keith was also bludgeoned with loving care by Stewart after his intemperate howlings at the moon re: Scott Brown, a better man than KO in every facet of life, both public and private.
MSNBC is such a mess that Comcast may decide to jettison the entire menagerie once they have taken over NBCUniversal from GE.
Democrats Announce They Won’t Use “Deem And Pass”

After a week of debate over the process behind passing the potentially historic health care legislation before them, it appears that the Democrats in the House will now not be using the "deem and pass" method to move the bill through the house. Representatives Steny Hoyer and Tom Clyburn just announced to the press on Capital Hill that they expect to have the votes to pass the Senate bill deeming the "deem and pass" tactic unnecessary to pass the bill.
Rep. John Boehner: “This Health Care Bill Will Ruin Our Country”
As news of the Democrats dropping the "deem and pass" in favor of separate votes in the Senate, the hours are inching closer to a time when we might have a conclusive health care reform bill passed in this country. At this point it's hard not to have an opinion about a bill that will require Americans to either buy health insurance (at government subsidized-prices) or pay for it on their taxes, but few have stronger words than Rep. John Boehner who has called the passing of the reform bill "Armageddon."
