Some People Never Change: Footage Unearthed From 1994 Of Student Interviewing Mitt Romney

When you see Mitt Romney opening his mouth nowadays, you wonder if this is the result of running for president or if he’s always sounded like a stereotypical robotic politician. Well, thanks to this 17-year-old interview with a student journalist who is described in the video title as “socially awkward,” we can definitely confirm Romneybot has been running on the same basic program since the 90s.

Considering he’s being interviewed by a character from a John Hughes film, Romney acts surprisingly awkward in this interview. He even hedges his bets on publicly stating his favorite type of music, and decides to say he just loves all music.

As a journalism student, my favorite part has to be when the teen reporter listens to Romney talk about being a drastic change on a wide range of issues from Ted Kennedy, then turning to the camera and saying, “Yes, well, he’s got some good points there.” And the part at the end where this kid reporter says Romney would be one of his “top choices” if he could vote just makes you sigh.

You can view the brief interview in all its awkward glory below, courtesy of YouTube:

“How do you like this music behind us right now?”
“Well, I like music of almost any kind, including this.”
    Classic Mitt.

    Inside Mitt Romney’s Brain:class TalkToReporter { function approveCurrentMusic(Music currentMusic) { Variable response; array list_of_good_music = {country, classical, choir, elevator_music, extra_soft_rock}; if(currentMusic == hip_hop OR currentMusic == rap OR currentMusic == anything_black) response = “Who let the dog’s out? Who, who?”; else if(list_of_good_music.contains(currentMusic)) { response = “Well, I like music of almost any kind, including this.”; } response = response + “Heh, heh, heh.”. return response; }}

Ever notice how, when Mitt gets flustered, he turns into Wiliiam H. Macy’s ‘Fargo’ character?

Funny indeed, and perhaps a friendly homage to a very similar comment from Gawker 4 days ago?

Keep working that teleprompter angle, regardless of how many times you see handle endless questions deftly with no notes, no prompter.  Whatever you do, don’t let that storyline go.  It’s one of the crown jewels!

I can only hope we start seeing a new, meaner Mitt that starts attacking Newt… or Mitt will be toast!!

  • RW

Tell that to the ‘English’ embassy.  Doh

  • RW

Mitt doesn’t have to attack Newt.  Mitt has to point out how bad President Obama has been.  Missing in action on debt reduction.  High unemployment.  Bad for business.

  • Anonymous

Wow, they are really digging for stuff to make this guy look bad.  Too bad they didn’t do this with the last guy they elected President.  That would have really been some juicy stuff.

  • Anonymous

Oh, Mitt.  I’m sorry it had to end this way, but it’s not me, it’s you!  We just don’t like you…http://brettcottrell.blogspot.com/2011/12/mitt-its-not-me-its-you.html

    Sincerely,
    The Electorate
