Trump Continues Attacking Blumenthal: Ask Him ‘About His Vietnam Record That Didn’t Exist’

During a lunch with Democratic and Republican members of the Senate today, President Donald Trump continued his attacks on Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) for supposedly “misrepresenting” comments made to him by Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch.

Earlier today, Trump brought up Blumenthal previously mentioning that he served in Vietnam, something that he apologized for in 2010. (Bluemnthal was in the armed services during the war, but wasn’t deployed to Vietnam.)

He continued to take shots at Blumenthal over his statements during today’s lunch, telling reporters that they should ask the lawmaker “about his Vietnam record that didn’t exist after years of saying it did.”

“So ask Senator Blumenthal about his Vietnam record,” he continued. “He misrepresented that just like he misrepresented Judge Gorsuch.”

For the record, other senators have largely backed up Blumenthal’s remarks about his conversation with Gorsuch, and Gorsuch’s own spokesperson has pretty much confirmed that Gorsuch told Blumenthal that personal attacks on judges were “demoralizing”
