Who Is Alleged Fort Hood Shooter Ivan Lopez?
According to multiple news outlets, Wednesday afternoon’s Fort Hood shooter is 34-year-old Specialist Ivan Lopez. The father and husband who had only been at Fort Hood a short time, used a .45 caliber semi-automatic handgun and eventually took his own life.
Questions are bound to arise about Lopez’s background, and early reports indicate the shooting was soldier-on-soldier(s), and not terrorism-related.
According to KWTX-TV, Lopez was an active-duty soldier, who worked as a truck driver for the U.S. Army. He allegedly opened fire at the motor pool.
UPDATE (10:47pm ET): Fort Hood officials confirmed that he died of a self-inflicted wound. They have no motive just yet. Lopez reportedly served in Iraq and first arrived at Fort Hood in February. His weapon was not registered on-base.
UPDATE (10:49pm ET): Lopez Was being treated for for mental illness but had not yet been officially diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder.
