ASME Delivers the Big O
It’s not news anymore that Barack Obama has (unintentionally) masterminded his own sort of newspaper bailout. Newspapers across the country sold out their post-election day issues, so popular was the NYT edition that they paper is currently offering a reprint as an incentive to subscribe to the paper. Magazines covers were flooded throughout the campaign with images of our now president, sometimes in various states of undress, a number of which achieved record sales and varying degrees of notoriety. Point being! Obama is good for print.
Perhaps with that in mind, the American Society of Magazine Editors (ASME), normally a stickler for rules, has decided to introduce a covering Barack category to its annual ‘Best Cover Contest.’ The category is officially titled ‘Best Obama Cover (featuring President Barack Obama)’ in case there was any confusion as to which Obama they were referring, and perhaps begs the question whether, now that the President has been given an award of his own, there will be enough covers left over to fill ‘best lifestyle,’ ‘most delicious’ and ‘sexiest’ covers.
