Boston Herald Runs Obama Cartoon Involving Watermelon
The Boston Herald published a highly questionable — and, if interpreted a certain way, racial — cartoon Wednesday related to the recent security breach at the White House.
In the cartoon, President Barack Obama is seen brushing his teeth in a restroom at the White House. In the background is a man bathing in a tub. “Have you tried the new watermelon-flavored toothpaste?” says the word bubble coming from the bathing man.
The caption below the cartoon: “White House invader got further than originally thought.”
To be sure, Colgate does produce a watermelon-flavored toothpaste — aimed at children, however.
UPDATE — 11:58 a.m. ET: Joe Mathieu of WBZ NewsRadio tweets that the Herald‘s editors have issued an apology.
