Megyn Kelly Defends Claim That Women Should “Deal” With Sexual Harassment

Yesterday NY Post columnist Cindy Adams wrote that women should just “deal with it” if they felt that they were being treated inappropriately on the job. Today, woman-on-the-job Megyn Kelly responded by backing up her claim and encouraging women to use more “empowering” venues than the courtroom to defend themselves against sexual harassment.

It’s worth noting that Kelly prefaced her commentary that she was playing “devil’s advocate” while discussing the matter with former prosecutor Wendy Murphy. She did not, however, make the point that women should simply conform to sexual harassment but, rather, that running to a lawyer every time someone stares at a woman’s chest promotes a culture of legal dependency on women. While Murphy considered that many sexual harassment lawsuits were valid and there are laws on the table that need to be enforced, she provided an amusing anecdote on how she combated sexual harassment in her workplace without having to fill out any papers.

Perhaps noteworthy Cindy Adams employer (the NY Post) and Megyn Kelly’s (Fox News) are both owned and operated by News Corp.

I love Megyn and agree with her. I’ve been harassed many times by the neo-fems def (i mean I did work for a trucking co. so not surprising). If I had been that troubled by it, I would’ve taken it up with one of the 3 owners.

ps, in case I offend anyone with the trucking co. comment, I should note that I loved most of them, even if they were way too crude sometimes.

I tend to agree with the sentiment expressed in the clip. Though, of course, I also refer to one of my son’s daycare providers as “The Pretty Girl with the Nice Butt” because I don’t know her name.

BTW: I’m supposed to be working, but after watching the above, I had a hankering to rewatch the “Great Repression” episode from Better Off Ted but thankfully for my productivity, it’s no longer one of the five streaming on Hulu and only the synopsis is available.

    I agree with you, Michelle.

For all the “bra thumping” I am woman! I am strong! so many of us don’t seem to have learned some of the most basic lessons at our mothers knees on how to take a creep down as many pegs as needed.

That should work for the bulk of the problems. Keep the power of the law and legal action for the serious situations based on a real abuse of power for sexual favors.

BTW, Magister, don’t think you’re going to get away Scot free with that “nice butt” stuff. I’ve got your name and will be keeping an eye on you, especially if you have a nice butt. :)

Magister, I am shocked, shocked, I say that you would refer to a woman that way.

@Grammie & @TRRK: It differentiates her from the “Cute Blonde”.

Remember when the Bush girls were at some event, a state fair or something like that, and Jena bought something for which the Secret Service had to pay. The barker or attendant, when asked which one of the girls bought the item, responded, “The fat blonde one.” So, I now understand you are just being practical.

    Classy King.

Just leave it to TRRK to make an ass of himself/herself.

Actually, my point, Michelle, is that men can be at times real pigs. I include myself in that. It may surprise you, but two rather classy men, well-educated, good jobs, good marriages, good fathers, over a couple of beers can say things which tend to objectify women. I don’t thing that is necessarily the intent, but that is the effect.

Why is it that the only people in favor of sexual harassment look like a truck driver in drag?

Yeah. “Just deal with it.” Idiot! Too much faux testosterone floating around out there. The Little Men grab on to it and …. Rub it on their tiny little genitalia – and we have 2010′s Murcuhn Man. These cretins are everywhere. I find a broken face works well. Deal with it! Yup.
