TGIF: Anchor Handles Local News Blooper Like A Pro

Picture 1 Video

The sign of a professional is not, apparently, screaming angrily when something goes wrong, and then throwing a mostly full bottle of Snapple against a wall while calling your office mates a bunch of “clowns” and/or “buttfaces.” This is a thing I learned today.

Acting like a professional means going with the flow and making the best of a bad situation! Just like this Fox17 reporter did.

Watch: Reporters Who Bravely Cover Hurricanes Are Our Patriots Of The Week

hurricane_9.25.11 Video

As hurricane Irene makes its way along the coast and up to the center of the world New York City, we can’t help but wonder… What are reporters assigned to cover the hurricane thinking right about now? We suspect it’s something like “@#%@^@%@!!!!” and “#$@% you, Don. Sitting there in that studio with your tan and your little mug and your big dumb face.” Covering bad weather is awful. And it’s made worse by the fact that people will watch video footage of you falling down over and over and over because your pain is hilarious.

These people are, truly, the unsung heroes throughout terrible storms, risking their comfort, hairstyles and sometimes even their lives (!) in order to make sure we’re informed and remain safe. That’s exactly why these reporters are our Patriots of the Week.

Oops! Newser’s Michael Wolff Is Mistakenly Brought On The BBC To Discuss…Baseball?

Wolff video

Last week, there was a bit of an on-air flub on BBC’s World News channel that somehow escaped the blooper-happy eye of the Internet. However, today, the clip went viral and it went viral hard. For good reason too. You haven’t seen hilarious until you’ve seen Michael Wolff, intending to be interviewed in his role as Rupert Murdoch biographer, instead get caught up in a segment about baseball. Seriously, this is great.

Local News Blooper: Weatherman Not Thrilled About Sounds On Set

Heyka video

There’s nothing more annoying than trying to do something in front of the camera and having someone on set distracting you. So, you’ve got to feel for KECI’s Mark Heyka. He was trying to do the weather and people were making loud noises. Still, if you’re going to mock their loud noises with your own loud noises, it’s best to remember that you’re the one being recorded…

How To Save A News Segment When You’ve Just Spilled The Food You’re Presenting

Horton video

Pop quiz, hot shot. You’re an anchor for a news show about to present a food segment and you just spilled a bunch of the food on the floor. It’s your job to make this food look good. How are you going to save the segment? Well, if you answered, “Eat it off the floor,” then you’ve won! What you’ve won I’m not so sure.

This Exists: Local Anchor Goes Nuts On A Turkey Caller

turkey_calling_1.31.11 Video

We’re not quite sure how to describe what San Diego Living co-host Renee Kohn is doing in this clip, but we’re fairly sure it’s been winning her more than her fair share of fine-feathered friends.

Let’s just put it this way: Kohn’s method for handling a turkey “gobbler” – a tool used for calling turkeys – is kind of fowl.

Viral Video Victim? Anchor Explains Why She Laughed During Murder Story

There’s a 2 year-old news clip circulating anew on the internet, thanks to The Huffington Post and FunnyorDie.com. The Funny or Die connection is especially unfortunate, given the clip’s subject matter. HuffPo Comedy’s post, entitled “News Anchor Can’t Stop Laughing While Describing A Gruesome Murder,” had little information on the clip that wasn’t included in the headline. While the clip is darkly funny, it made me want to find out the story behind it. Now, the laughing anchor responds!

‘Pottery Barn Rule’ Becomes ‘Crate & Barrel Syndrome’ On MSNBC

video

On MSNBC yesterday, reporter Jim Miklaszewski had the kind of brain freeze that TV people have nightmares about. Trying to pull the phrase “Pottery Barn rule” out of some dark crevice, he instead emerged with the “Crate and Barrel syndrome.Contessa Brewer, a delightful guest at Tuesday night’s Mediaite party, opted to empathize with, rather than correct, Miklaszewski.
