Round Two: Jay Carney Accuses FNC’s Ed Henry Of ‘Creating Something For Fox’

ed2 video

On Tuesday, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney welcomed correspondent Ed Henry to the Fox seat by calling his question a “Republican talking point,” and touching off a heated series of exchanges. At Wednesday’s briefing, Carney seemed to be spoiling for a continuation of the fight, referencing Henry in the answer to another reporter’s question. Henry obliged, asking Carney when the Obama debt ceiling plan would be submitted to the CBO. Carney went on to accuse Henry of “creating something for Fox.”

Ed Henry’s First Fox News Question: What Was The Point Of Obama Address?

edfox video

Newly-minted Fox News Senior White House Correspondent Ed Henry started off his first post-CNN briefing with a bang today, asking Press Secretary Jay Carney “What was the point of giving a prime-time address to the nation, without an Obama plan?”

The question touched off a rather heated set of exchanges in which Carney pushed back against the “Republican talking point” that there’s no Obama plan, and several reporters pressed the issue.

Picture 5

In her new role she will lead the network’s political coverage from the White House as President Obama seeks a second term in office. Yellin begins her new role today.

Reliable Sources Buries The Lead In Jon Stewart Vs. Fox News Vs. Politifact Dustup

Kurtz1 Video

The normally sharp Howard Kurtz really missed the boat in his rundown of the recent Jon Stewart/Chris Wallace interview, and Politifact-ual aftermath. On Sunday morning’s Reliable Sources, he and his panel missed the mark on Stewart’s response to Politifact’s charge that his assertion about Fox News viewers was false, and when panelist Aaron Barnhart tried to bring up the crucial edit of an exchange about Fox exec Bill Sammon, Kurtz promised to go back to it, but never did.

Ed Henry Moves To Fox News. Ergo, Media Matters Attacks Ed Henry.

ed-henry

Ed Henry is on Media Matters’ [Expletive] List now that he’s moved from CNN to Fox News as the network’s chief White House correspondent.

The National Journal suggest the liberal media watchdog may be a little hasty in its attempts to paint Henry as an overtly partisan right-winger.

Henry’s contract with CNN was up. In a short statement, CNN says “we thank Ed for his contributions and wish him the best. We will be naming our new chief White House correspondent in the coming days.”

Bin Laden Celebration At The White House Gate: ‘Surreal’ And ‘Sad’

Picture 6 video

At one point late last night, CNN White House correspondent Ed Henry described getting emotional as a crowd gathered at the gates to the White House, waving flags and–at one point–singing the National Anthem. But some journalists who were in that crowd say the experience of being there gave them more mixed feelings. Alexis Madrigal, senior editor at The Atlantic was there, and he said at times the energy of the crowd was more like a rowdy bunch of sports fans who were “loud and boorish and silly. We treated the killing of a man who promoted the killing of thousands of Americans like a game with no consideration of the past or future costs.”

CNN’s Ed Henry Asks White House Why Obama Won’t Release Birth Certificate …After CNN Discredits Birthers

Picture 7 Video

It’s the story that won’t die, mainly because reporters refuse to give up asking about it. Of course it’s the issue of President Obama’s birth certificate and whether it truly exists. Donald Trump suggests it might be missing, but the White House claims, and now CNN’s Anderson Cooper (after conducting an investigation) confirms, Obama was in fact born in Hawaii. Yet when it came time for CNN’s Ed Henry to ask a question today of White House press secretary Jay Carney, whose opinion on the issue do you think he gave voice to?

burton

Burton has been floated as a candidate to fill the House seat vacated by “Shirtless” Chris Lee (R-NY), but, in an email to Mediaite, Burton has ruled out such a run.

Memo To ABC: Don’t Fight It, Return Jake Tapper To This Week

20090302_tapper_250x375

During the holidays, most people get to see those who they enjoy the most and wish for opportunities to see these cherished friends more often throughout the year. Apparently this also describes the relationship between long-time viewers of ABC‘s This Week and the substitute host they only get to see on holidays: Senior White House Correspondent Jake Tapper. While current host (my hesitation to use the word “permanent” is unabashed wishful thinking) Christiane Amanpour was away, Tapper returned and reminded everyone again why he should be allowed to reclaim the throne.

DNC’s Tim Kaine: Obama “Had A Lot Of Things He Had To Do” Before Focusing On Jobs

Picture 28 Video

Democratic National Committee chair Tim Kaine appeared on CNN‘s State of the Union and in addition to making some minor news by announcing that he intends to remain chair for another two-year term and that there is virtually no possibility of a Democratic primary challenger to President Obama, it’s comments he made about Obama’s focus on job creation that is likely to get the most attention.

naObama video

Hawaii Governor Neil Abercrombie is going to finally put to rest the Birther debate. In an interview with CNN’s Ed Henry, Abercrombie explained that he will try his best to publicly release the birth certificate. The strangest thing is that he plans on doing that even if the White House doesn’t want him to for fear of even bringing the dead argument back up. Why? Because Abercrombie has long been friends with President Obama’s parents and he’s sick of them being disrespected.

CNN: White House Laughs Off Rumors Of Hillary Clinton Being Replaced

hilary-clinton Video

According to CNN‘s White House correspondent Ed Henry, there is no truth to any of the rumors that Hillary Clinton will step down from her post as Secretary of State and be replaced by Governor Bill Richardson. The idea is completely “not true” and being “laughed off” by the administration, although other staff reshuffling is likely.

Exclusive: The Lost Ed Henry Interview

ed_lost video

It was a more innocent time. Dave Weigel was still writing for The Washington Post, and BP was still just an awful name for a brand of honey. On April 19, 2010, CNN’s Ed Henry sat down for a (much lighter) follow-up to our Inside the White House Press Corps interview. After bravely tackling subjects like Star Wars, tattoos, porn star names, and the then-imminent Lost finale, Ed’s interview promptly vanished into thin air.

Luckily, the video has resurfaced, allowing a nostalgic look back at a bygone era.

President Obama Clarifies: ‘I Was Not Commenting… On The Wisdom’ Of Building The NYC Mosque

Picture 5 video

CNN’s Ed Henry caught up with President Barack Obama during his Gulf vacation today, and it seems the president would like to add an asterisk to his comments last night on the Islamic center near Ground Zero. While he stuck to his point that Muslims have every right to establish a religious center there, he added that he “was not comment and will not comment on the wisdom” of putting the center near Ground Zero, but only of the legal right to.

Sanchez Knocks Fox: “Don’t You Have To Be A News Organization To Get That Seat?”

sanchez_8-3 video

Robert Gibbs Claims NASA Administrator ‘Misspoke’ About Muslim Outreach

gibbs_misspoke video

NASA Chief Administrator Charles Bolden got a lot of attention last week, when he revealed during an interview with Al Jazeera that President Obama had “asked him to reach out to the Muslim world” (while setting other goals.) Right of center media outlets cried foul which lead Jon Stewart to defend as as part of “innocuous and bland of broad PR goals.” But it turns out that, according to Press Secretary Robert Gibbs, its a all a big misunderstanding! Bolden ‘misspoke’ about the Muslim outreach goal.

Note To Keith Olbermann on Twitter Report: You Don’t Need To Say ‘At’

twitter_report video

Countdown host Keith Olbermann is a recent, welcome addition to the Twitter community, and his “Twitter Report” is a welcome addition to the show. As such, this is not, in any way, meant to dissuade him from doing the segment, but rather to fine-tune it. Mr. Olbermann? When you’re reading people’s Twitter names, you don’t actually have to say “at.”

David Axelrod: Media Focuses On Health Care ‘Sideshow,’ Not Enough Substance

axelrod_pressroom exclusive

It was a hectic briefing room today following the passage of the historic health care reform bill. After Robert Gibbs gave a packed briefing, Senior Adviser David Axelrod did a round of interviews to each of the television television networks, in which he spoke about the President’s reaction to the bill’s passage, and Republican threats to repeal it. Axelrod took a minute to talk to the mere mortals, and we asked him what the media’s health care coverage had taught the White House.

CNN’s Ed Henry Won’t Let Robert Gibbs Pass on ‘Deem and Pass’

deem_and_pass

Tthe House Democrats’ procedural “Deem and Pass” strategy (also known as the “Slaughter Rule” and “Demon Pass”) was a hot topic at today’s White House briefing, with the AP’s Ben Feller leading off with a series of questions that Press Secretary Robert Gibbs all but ignored. That didn’t prevent CNN’s Ed Henry from pressing Gibbs later in the briefing, in a textbook example of what White House reporters should do. Although he didn’t exactly get a straight answer, sometimes the non-answers can tell you something, too.
