First Lady Michelle Obama made a guest appearance on Tuesday’s Late Night With Jimmy Fallon in a pre-taped segment that had her challenging host Jimmy Fallon in a series of challenges at the White House, including dodgeball, push-ups, hula hooping, and tug-of-war. Fallon and the First Lady were all tied up going into the final event — the potato sack race (the results of which we will not spoil for you here).

It’s no secret that a number of us here at Mediaite have professed our love for NBC’s thursday night comedy block (which is currently suffering from a lack of Community), so naturally, the video below is chock-full of so many awesome people, places, and things, there are lit’rally (read in Rob Lowe‘s voice) no words to describe it.

Last night’s O’Reilly Factor began with a question near and dear to the heart of anyone trying to follow the 2012 race for the White House: “is the presidential election a joke?” Bill O’Reilly did not mean it in a colloquial way, however, but in the sense that comedians and pop culture had just as much of an effect on voting than substantive issues. To that end, O’Reilly asked, how would the overwhelmingly liberal swing of the media affect the way people perceive 2012 candidates?

Earlier in the week, the sad news broke that celebrity couple Russell Brand and Katy Perry were no more. The split was the result of much speculation, as were the intentions and feelings of the couple. But every cloud has a silver lining, and this one being Jimmy Fallon‘s spot-on impression of the comedian, in which Brand reads articles about himself in gossip magazines and corrects their misconceptions.

Rachel Maddow discussed “rocking out with our caucus out,” noting that The Republicans “kind of seem to hate” Mitt Romney. However, she would definitely love to see a debate between Rick Santorum and Barack Obama, particularly if they talk about birth control, abortion and social security.

This Saturday, as with any time an old star comes back to host, Saturday Night Live looked to its past. They recreated a couple of host Jimmy Fallon’s classic sketches and, since the season was right, they even brought back Horatio Sanz, Tracy Morgan, and Chris Kattan to perform “I Wish It Was Christmas Today,” the holiday hit they first did back in 2000. The goofy tune is actually one of the few Christmas songs not written 50 years ago to have had much staying power so its unsurprising that Fallon and Sanz have performed it a number of times in the past decade. We’ve collected all the different versions below.

With Christmas just a few days away, Jimmy Fallon decided to sit in front of the fireplace, and crack open A Visit From Saint Nicholas — better known as The Night Before Christmas. But, in true Late Night fashion, there was a twist. Instead of just a straight reading, Fallon decided to throw in some Mad Libs fun, having celebrities from Jesse Eisenberg to Martin Short fill in various words along the way.

On Tuesday’s Late Night, host Jimmy Fallon decided to open up the suggestion box, and spread some holiday cheer by tweaking a couple animated holiday classics. His first task? Making Frosty the Snowman say something other than “Happy Birthday” when the top hat lands on his head and he springs to life.

When Seth Meyers reported on the story of a local strip club doing a Christmas toy drive (“give a gift to charity and we’ll give it to the manager!”), Jimmy Fallon just had to stop by his old “Weekend Update” post to hear more. Looking sharp in a navy suit and purple tie, he challenged Meyers to a “good old-fashioned ‘Weekend Update’ Joke-Off.” And, just to make things more exciting, former co-anchors Tina Fey and Amy Poehler also threw their hats into the ring.

Jimmy Fallon and Andy Samberg were in an odd little sketch a third of the way through the show, which opened with Fallon giving himself a pep talk backstage while taking a break from hosting the “Saturday Night Live” Christmas episode…see what they did there? Trés meta! Samberg showcased his best Fallon impression, and the pair also did a few impressions together — Jerry Seinfeld, Barry Gibb (which they cut short when one Fallon informed the other Fallon that co-host Justin Timberlake couldn’t make it), and Kermit the Frog among them.

It’s fitting that Jimmy Fallon would return to Saturday Night Live to host a Christmas episode, and also fitting that he was joined by fellow alum Rachel Dratch to reprise his Pat Sullivan character, with Dratch playing his girlfriend Denise. They were trying to crash their old high school’s winter formal, which was difficult as their student IDs put Fallon at fourteen and Dratch at…whatever age you have to be to work as an assistant high school principal.

It seems that Tim Tebow, the football person who really likes to talk about God, has finally made it– he’s getting his own sketch on Saturday Night Live tonight, if this AP report on the program is any indication. The report, on tonight’s program hosted by SNL alum Jimmy Fallon and hosting musical guest Michael Bublé, reports that the studio was being prepared for a sketch mocking the over-the-top religious displays of the famous player.

Since he last held a sustained lead in the Republican primary polls, way back in the summertime, there hasn’t been a whole lot of good news for establishment candidate Mitt Romney. However, according to Politico‘s Patrick Gavin, there is one area in which Romney is defeating his rivals handily. Gavin reports that the former Massachusetts Gov. is head-and-shoulders above the competition when it comes to mentions by late-night comics. Current frontrunner Newt Gingrich is running a distant 5th.

This one doesn’t need too much background. On Friday’s Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, Maya Rudolph and Jimmy Fallon sang a duet of “Baby, It’s Cold Outside.” Fallon, however, thought they were going to sing, “The Chipmunk Song.” The result? A fun little intersection of the two classics.

Bernie Goldberg‘s weekly media critique with Bill O’Reilly centered on the controversy surrounding the intro music The Roots used for Rep. Michele Bachmann on Jimmy Fallon‘s show last week (a ditty called “Lyin’ Ass Bitch“) but took a personal turn down Memory Lane as O’Reilly compared what Fallon’s house band did to other political comedians, namely Jon Stewart, who he argued was above it. Goldberg, speaking out of personal experience, disagreed: “Atewart had a black church choir telling me to go you-know-what myself, and this went on for twelve minutes.”

The Rep. Michele Bachmann-Jimmy Fallon “Lyin’ Ass Bitch” controversy may be over, but Rep. Bachmann doesn’t sound too happy about its conclusion. Speaking to KLIF Radio this week, the New York Daily News reported the Republican presidential candidate said she “of course” accepted the apology from NBC’s Senior Vice President of Programming, but nonetheless considered it a result of a double-standard that the President of NBC himself did not send her a message.

Despite her time as the GOP frontrunner seeming to fall farther and farther into the past, Michele Bachmann garnered a lot of headlines this past week. And all it took was for someone to call her a nasty B-word on television. That’s right, Whoopi Goldberg called her a “bonehead” on The View.

Wait, what? That’s not the B-word everyone was talking about? Oh, right.

Still, Goldberg was fairly forceful in her conviction that Bachmann did not have what it takes to run the country.

Michele Bachmann appeared on America’s Newsroom and called upon NBC to apologize for an inflammatory song that Roots drummer Questlove played to introduce her on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. “If that song had been played for Michelle Obama, I have no doubt that NBC would have apologized to her, and likely they could have fired the drummer, or at least, suspended him,” Bachmann fumed. “None of that happened from NBC, and this is clearly a form of bias on the part of the Hollywood entertainment elite but it’s also sexism as well.”

In the span of four days, political media types have been tested twice by two very different incidents of female disrespect in the national political discourse. Much of the media, ideological and otherwise, were quick to note that a crowd of NASCAR fans booed First Lady Michelle Obama– some more sympathetic than others. The second test occurred last night as The Roots played the song “Lyin’ Ass Bitch” as Rep. Michele Bachmann walked onto the set of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. The treatment of both leave one to the conclusion that defending women from classless attacks might simply not be good for the media business.

Fox News’ The Five kicked up the Michele Bachmann – Jimmy Fallon controversy (It was reported earlier today that Fallon’s house band, The Roots, played Bachmann on to the show with a version of Fishbone’s “Lyin’ Ass Bitch”), and absolutely tore into the band and NBC for allowing this to happen. Taking the most offense was Greg Gutfield, who painted The Roots as both cowards and politically-motivated entertainers.

Glenn Beck was apoplectic upon learning that Questlove and The Roots had played “Lyin’ Ass Bitch” to introduce Michele Bachmann on The Late Show with Jimmy Fallon last night and trashed the late night host. “You treat her like that? Jimmy Fallon, you should be ashamed of yourself,” Beck erupted. “You want to use her for ratings? You’re a despicable human being!”
