Ever since Andrew Breitbart reminded Occupy protesters at CPAC that their movement had a serious sexual harassment and rape problem, Breitbart and many in his company have been repeatedly making the point as a reminder to a public that has mostly forgotten that Occupy exists that they are not, in the aggregate, the most serious group of political dissenters. This has gotten the attention of some of the lower-tier fringe left, with the latest of these being noted political scholar Alec Baldwin, who added this veritable contribution to politics today: “Andrew Breitbart is a festering boil on the anus of public discourse.”

If you thought the battle between Rick Santorum and Mitt Romney* for top spot in Iowa was the roughest exchange of the night, you should probably start following some cable news personalities on Twitter. This time, it was Piers Morgan and Keith Olbermann who found themselves locking antlers via social media because of tonight’s Iowa caucus

CNN host Piers Morgan and Countdown’s Keith Olbermann, each well-known for their propensity to feud, squared off on Twitter last week when Olbermann used the occasion of Christine O’Donnell’s walk-off to take a shot at Morgan. In response, Morgan mocked the size of Olbermann’s audience, called him a “coward,” and issued a challenge for the liberal firebreather to debate him on Piers Morgan Tonight. So far, Olbermann has ducked the gauntlet by claiming that Morgan banned him “for life.”

After a weekend of blogging and tweeting attacks from Current TV Chief News Officer (is it just me, or does that sound like a job posting for TASS?) Keith Olbermann, conservative pundit S.E. Cupp struck back this morning with a Special Comment of her own. Responding to Olbermann’s relentless barrage of insults about her intelligence, her honesty, and her parents, Cupp turned the former Countdown host’s signature segment against him.

Last Thursday, future Current TV host Keith Olbermann touched off some controversy when he tweeted, about conservative pundit S.E. Cupp, “On so many levels she’s a perfect demonstration of the necessity of the work Planned Parenthood does”

After several days of Twitter fighting, and online buttals and rebuttals, Olbermann has opted to lie about his intent, rather than apologize.

Maybe he’s trying to drum up attention for the launch of his Current TV show, but Keith Olbermann is embroiled in another nasty Twitter fight, this time with Glenn Beck protege´ SE Cupp. Responding to a tweet about Cupp’s Planned Parenthood remarks on The Joy Behar Show, Olbermann tweeted “On so many levels she’s a perfect demonstration of the necessity of the work Planned Parenthood does”

Earlier tonight, now-former Countdown host Keith Olbermann sent his first tweet since his departure from MSNBC’s airwaves Friday. The subject? To announce that he would be sending his first post-Countdown tweet at 8pm Eastern time. The strange announcement is probably a humorous tweak at the speculation that ensued following an innocuous update to his Twitter profile on Saturday.

Since joining Twitter early last year, now-former Countdown host Keith Olbermann has become one of the platform’s most loquacious users, tweeting more frequently than a meth-tweaked canary. All of that came to an abrupt end in the hour before his Friday announcement that he, and his show, were leaving MSNBC.

Well that didn’t take long. After announcing a self-imposed suspension of his Twitter account, MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann has returned to his pre-suspension tweeting ways last night, having taken a three day hiatus from the social media platform. Has the frenzy over Olbermann’s allegedly dismissive treatment of Julian Assange‘s rape allegations died down? Or is it just starting?

On Friday night’s Countdown, host Keith Olbermann‘s “Tweet of the Day” concerned his simmering feud with “Worst Person in the World” recipient Bristol Palin. Linking to Palin’s Facebook rebuke of Olbermann, Sabrina Brown‘s tweet read “aww keith! Bristol is pissed at you!

Longtime Wheel of Fortune host, conservative media figure, and Keith Olbermann-unleasher Pat Sajak wants you to know that it’s really him on the Twitter. In his trademark self-effacing style, Sajak explained in a tweet that he’s having trouble getting his account verified by the social networking site, but pointed out “if I were faking, wouldn’t I pretend to be a bigger name?”

For the unconvinced, Sajak released a do-it-yourself verification video via YouTube, a creative solution for celebrities who can’t get through Twitter’s verification red tape.

Keith Olbermann Twittered for the first time since being indefinitely suspended without pay from MSNBC on Friday. Said @keitholbermann: “Greetings From Exile! A quick, overwhelmed, stunned THANK YOU for support that feels like a global hug & obviously left me tweetless XO”

ABC News’ Jake Tapper scored a hard-to-get scoop last night when he got former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin to bypass Facebook and comment directly to him about the “controversy” surrounding her Twitter “favorites.” Mediaite, among others, reported that Palin’s favorites included an Ann Coulter tweet that seemed to endorse a scattershot “birther”-themed church marquee.

Palin told Tapper that she has “never purposefully favorited any tweet,” but although she denies bookmarking Coulter’s tweet, she seems okay with it. She then took a shot at the “bored reporters” who wrote about it.

Lawrence O’Donnell filled in on MSNBC’s Countdown last night.

But Keith Olbermann was in the building. He announced on his Twitter feed he was filming a new promo for MSNBC – and it appears the new promo will be directed by legendary filmmaker Spike Lee.

Since early this morning, Press Secretary Robert Gibbs has been the object of ire from liberals for comments he made regarding criticism from the “professional left.” After clarifying, but not apologizing, to HuffPost’s Sam Stein, Gibbs missed today’s briefing (Deputy Press Secretary Bill Burton attributed it to “sniffles and a sore throat”), but Burton further refocused Gibbs’ remarks toward liberal cable personalities. Tonight, Grand Poobah of the ‘Professional Left’ Keith Olbermann delivered a Special Comment directed back at Gibbs.

Keith Olbermann kicked off Countdown on MSNBC last night with a segment about the anti-Prop 8 ruling in California, while CNN’s Rick Sanchez started Rick’s List at 8pmET discussing the latest in the Connecticut workplace shooting.

This was a decision Olbermann didn’t understand – which he expressed, on Twitter, while his show was still on air.

MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann joined Twitter in April, and since has amassed more than 82,000 followers while tweeting nearly 3,000 times.

He’s one of the most high-profile, completely-engaged personalities on Twitter, and yesterday was no exception. He tweeted 189 times over the past 24 hours, about everything from Comcast to his staff going to Lawrence O’Donnell‘s show to Andrew Breitbart and “freakin’ nuts” Bill O’Reilly.

Following a harsh exchange between MSNBC host Joe Scarborough and Daily Kos founder Markos Moulitsas on Twitter in May, Moulitsas writes today that he has been banned (for now) from appearing on the network.

He publishes an email from MSNBC President Phil Griffin explaining the reasoning (a “cheap shot”), but Moulitsas concludes he has “been booted from the network because of a Scarborough temper tantrum.”

It’s Friday night, and Keith Olbermann and Sarah Palin are having a debate! Well, not really, but this is about the closest to direct contact that can be expected, and we have Twitter to thank for it. Olbermann is taking Palin to task for recommending an article suggesting that the BP escrow fund gives President Obama similar powers to an economic initiative passed under Hitler, and then attacking the “lamestream media” for pointing that out.

After taking heat from some of his liberal fans on Twitter over his strong criticism of Pres. Barack Obama‘s Oval Office speech Tuesday, Keith Olbermann stopped into another of his new media stomping grounds to find more of the same.

Now he’s leaving The Daily Kos after finding a “diary trashing first me and my colleague Rachel.”

While reporting on Keith Olbermann‘s enshrinement of a deleted Sarah Palin tweet yesterday, I came across a newer, arguably stupider gem from her Twitter feed. In one of the worst attempts at revisionism ever, she tried to re-frame her “Drill, Baby, Drill!” refrain as a disclaimer-laden plea for environmental responsibility. On last night’s Countdown, Keith destroyed her premise so thoroughly during the opening credits, his quick comment was completely unnecessary.

“It’s hard to say what’s sadder about the state of American politics: that our immediate past president is now going to communicate with us via Facebook, or that we need a Princeton professor to talk about it. It’s distressing.” At least Princeton professor Melissa Harris-Lacewell is honest. The professor visited Keith Olbermann to talk about just that: the strange news that former president George W. Bush has finally gotten bored enough to make his own Facebook page.
