leno_3-31 video

In a green room chat after her appearance on The Tonight Show last night, Joy Behar and her HLN got some content as well.

And Leno didn’t hold back on admitting Conan O’Brien “got screwed” by NBC. But, according to Leno, so did he.

Joy Behar Would Like To Have Glenn Beck Neutered And Spayed

Picture 7 video

At least that is her requirement for him to appear on her HLN show. Behar weighed in on the Beck phenomenon during an appearance on Jay Leno last night…because really, is there a more surefire way to land yourself some morning after headlines than to hook your self to the Glenn Beck media train?

Rove On RNC “Voyeur” Staffer: “Find That Pervert And Get His Card”

rove_3-30 video

Karl Rove found a new venue to promote his book, Courage and Consequence, last night – The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

The lighter venue led to mostly serious discussions, including about yesterday’s “bondage-themed nightclub” story, health care in general, and some very uncomfortable moments of Rove’s early life.

David Letterman Begins Week With Win Over Jay Leno

leno_3-10

Remember how the storyline when Conan O’Brien hosted the Tonight Show was that he could win in the younger demographics but would lose in total viewers?

Well, after a first week back of big ratings and victories over CBS, Jay Leno and the new old Tonight Show lost to David Letterman in the demos Monday night.

Did Jay Leno Fake The Audience’s Response To Sarah Palin?

palin update

Maybe Sarah Palin wasn’t quite the hit on The Tonight Show the other night that everyone thought she was! A contributor over at Daily Kos — who provides some impressive sound bona fides — says he attended the Leno taping and that the audience was not nearly as welcoming as it sounded to TV viewers later on that night. He thinks Leno added a laugh track. Update: A reader who was there disagrees.

Sarah Palin And Jay Leno Bond Over Bad Press

palin_3-3 video

Sarah Palin was a two-segment guest last night on The Tonight Show (and was involved in the cold open, displaying her own version of “cue cards”).

Dressed down in jeans, she made several key political points before trying her hand at stand-up for the first time ever. But she and Jay Leno also bonded over something they share.

leno_3-1 video

What was the new, old, new Tonight Show like? Well look, if you like Jay Leno, it was vintage Leno. If you exited the earth for the last few months, you might have been surprised by the studio and the opening, but basically, it was the same show Leno was doing back in May.

Here’s a look at what you missed if you were boycotting.

palin_2-22

The first batch of guests for Jay Leno‘s re-premiere of The Tonight Show is out – and it’s shaping up to be a star-studded first couple of weeks.

Kevin Eubanks Leaving Tonight Show (Eventually); John Melendez Out As Announcer

eubanks_2-17

Jay Leno‘s longtime bandleader and sidekick Kevin Eubanks will be leaving the Tonight Show, but will still be with the show when it returns March 1.

This story went through several incarnations over the past 24 hours – but it now appears more changes are on the way.

Conan Named Most Popular TV Personality By Young People…Just In Time

conan_1-25 video

Besides the revelation in the latest Harris America’s Favorite TV Personality poll that Glenn Beck is the 2nd most popular behind Oprah Winfrey, there are some interesting late night implications as well.

Specifically, Conan O’Brien (who has been in the news a little recently) winning one of the categories.

Do Not Feel Sorry For Conan O’Brien

conan_1-22

Conan O’Brien signs off The Tonight Show forever tonight, and judging from last night’s show, the tone has gotten more sentimental.

Conan’s show has been at the top of its game recently, and it’s true he really got screwed by NBC. But don’t feel sorry for Conan O’Brien.

Conan O’Brien Borrowed The Bugatti, Got The Rolling Stones For Cheap

Screen-shot-2010-01-21-at-4.36.22-AM-e1264074347406-300x207

It was nice watching Conan stick it to his bosses, spending boatloads of NBC’s cash on a Bugatti Veyron and licensing fees for The Rolling Stones song “Satisfaction.” And when NBC pulled the Conan clip to save money on streaming The Stones song online, it seemed like Conan really showed them. But now it’s being reported that he borrowed the car.

The Case Of The Missing Conan O’Brien Sketch

conan_1-21 video

Remember Conan O’Brien‘s $1.5 million comedy sketch/up yours to NBC involving a Bugatti Veyron and The Rolling Stones’ “Satisfaction” last night?

Well if you missed it, you won’t find it on NBC.com or Hulu.com, because NBC has removed the segment from the show. It will certainly save them some money. But you can still watch it here!

Why Critics Of NBC Have It All Wrong

nbc-logo

The New York Times, in its cover story, has a hell of a good time painting Jeff Zucker into a corner. But even if Zucker is wearing the black hat in all this, the blame for NBC’s predicament goes back to the GE management, and a fundamental lack of understanding of the evolution of the media business. For NBC, a little thing called cable may have played a part.

‘Don’t Blame Leno,’ Says His Staff; But Should You Blame You?

leno_1-8

Most of the defense we’ve seen in the press in NBC’s late night chaos during the past two weeks is from Team Conan, and as the Conan O’Brien and Jay Leno fate is sealed (likely today), we’re hearing from Team Leno today.

So Team Leno wants to convey it’s not Jay’s fault – but is it our fault?

DONE DEAL? Conan’s Leaving, Jay’s Staying — And NBC Is Paying

leno conan

Numerous new outlets are reporting that Conan O’Brien and NBC are close to a deal confirming his exit from the network — that would leave the way clear for Jay Leno to retake the Tonight Show. It’s been a messy, angry, public late-night battle, and ending it won’t come cheap — reports are that it will cost NBC $30 – $40 million, at least.

Conan O’Brien Has Nothing To Lose

Screen shot 2010-01-16 at 12.16.23 AM

Conan O’Brien is done at NBC. That much seems obvious from the scorched-earth shows he’s delivered over the past week — not to mention from the rumors that Jay Leno has re-upped for that 11:35 p.m. spot and Dick Ebersol trashing him in the New York Times. But for those of us who have watched this late-night drama unfold for just over a week, it’s pretty obvious that he’s gone through the various stages of grief — from anger to denial straight through to just not giving a damn.

The Way We Were: Revisiting The Conan-Leno Swap In 2004

Conan 2004

Remember 2004? Could it be that it was all so simple then? Or has time rewritten every line? Yes, yes and yes. Back then, it was very simple — Conan O’Brien was taking over the Tonight Show from Jay Leno in 2009. Changing of the guard. Passing of the torch. Handing down a treasure from generation to generation. Ah yes. It made all sorts of sense — then.

NBC Exec Dick Ebersol Calls Conan “Failure,” “Gutless” To Blame Leno (Update)

conan_1-15

In a surprisingly harsh and candid attack on Conan O’Brien, Chairman of NBCU Sports Dick Ebersol told the New York TimesBill Carter O’Brien was “gutless” to blame Jay Leno, and called him a “failure.”

It’s pure spin, of course, that contradicts the actual reason for these immediate changes. But O’Brien’s almost out the door, so apparently it’s time to kick him on the way.

When Will Conan O’Brien’s Tonight Show, And NBC Bashing, End?

conan_1-14

Last night’s Tonight Show contained arguably the sharpest jabs by Conan O’Brien at his employer – and Jay Leno.

How long can this last? If reports are true, it may be all over by next week. But what are the implications for O’Brien and NBC?

leno_1-14

Is NBC ready to take a full mulligan?

But GossipCop is hearing no deal is set.

Defending Jeff Zucker: Moving Jay Leno To Primetime Was Once A Great Idea

JeffZucker

Throughout the recent sturm and drang surrounding the NBC late night drama, the one consistent takeaway is that this is all the fault of NBC Chief Jeff Zucker. And while that may or may not be true, the idea of moving Jay Leno to the 10pm time slot wasn’t always seen as the disastrous move that is now. In fact, many television critics hailed Zucker for “the coup” of keeping Leno when this move was announced. Let’s take a look at what critics said at the time, and compare it to their thoughts now. Fun! Right?

Conan Slams NBC — Again — And, This Time, Leno

Conan Kenneth the Page video

It’s official: Conan’s bitter.

Tonight, again, Tonight Show host Conan O’Brien‘s monologue was laced with jokes sticking it to NBC — plus the first salvos that seemed intentionally aimed at Jay Leno. Until tonight, Conan’s mentions of Leno himself were benign, instead focusing on NBC’s plans with respect to both their shows — which Leno has echoed emphatically on his own show. Tonight, that ended.

Was This Conan O’Brien’s Final Tonight Show?

obrien_1-13 video

The question has to be asked – was this the last time The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien will air? Because NBC can’t afford to have Conan O’Brien go rogue on a nightly basis like he did tonight.

Let’s explore the carnage and search for morsels of funny buried in the peacock feathers.

Here is the full text of the statement released by Tonight Show Conan O’Brien this afternoon, confirming that he would not accept a 12:05 a.m. time slot for his show and would not follow Jay Leno at 11:35 p.m.
