Flashback: Johnny Rotten Attempts To Persuade Newt Gingrich To Run For President In 2000

Gingrich Lydon video

Last night on The Daily Show, Jon Stewart played quotes from a long list of people (himself included) who don’t think Newt Gingrich should be President. Gingrich shouldn’t feel too bad though. There’s one guy who definitely wants him to be the nominee, at least he did in 2000. That man is former Sex Pistols lead singer John Lydon who, during an episode of his old VH1 series, Rotten TV, met Gingrich at the 2000 Republican convention and appeared to take a shine to him.

Watch Kathy Griffin Joke About Deformities In Front Of Battle-Weary Soldiers

Kathy Griffin video

When Kathy Griffin joked that Bristol Palin looked like “the white Precious” after her supposed weight gain, her audience—a group of servicemen and women at the Marine Corps Air Station in Miramar, California—booed in response. Curiously, though, the group responded much more positively when Griffin made a crack about “deformities”—even though soldiers injured in battle must have been watching the show, VH1 Divas Salute the Troops, both during its taping and as it was simulcast around the globe.

Kathy Griffin Gets Booed By U.S. Troops After Calling Bristol Palin Fat

bristol_griffin video

Comedian and self-proclaimed “D-lister” Kathy Griffin hosted VH1 Divas Salute the Troops which was taped for an audience of servicemen at the Marine Corps Air Station in Miramar, California, and aired last night. The ribald and unconventional comedian set the tone for the night when she joked about Bristol Palin and her supposed weight gain while competing with Dancing With The Stars. But the joke fell flat, as the military men and woman in attendance lustily booed the host for taking a shot at Sarah Palin‘s daughter.

Best Newsweek Ever: The Future Of Magazines Looks Like Basic Cable?

newsweek_lost video

The smart editorial minds behind Newsweek seem to have a keen understanding of both the current zeitgeist and the future of magazines. This is perhaps best evidenced by the following video recap of Lost, as told through the eyes of staffers who have never seen the show. Excitement and confusion, all rolled into one — brillz content, indeed. Oh, and thank you Newsweek, for finally showing us what the future of magazines look like — basic cable television!

VH1 Completes the Celebreality Circle of Life

In the beginning, there was Behind the Music, an intimate and comprehensive look at celebrities grappling with the overly clichéd lifestyle of “sex, drugs, and rock n’ roll.” Celebreality took us one step further, into the resurrection of our celebrity ‘heroes’, with a little help from Ant and Harvey Walden IV. And now, VH1 is [...]

Report: Is Lauren Zalaznick Leaving NBC-Universal To Save MTV?

Nikki Finke is reporting that Lauren Zalaznick, the President of NBC Universal’s Women and Lifestyle Entertainment Networks, is in “advanced talks” to take over as MTV President of Entertainment, a job recently vacated by departing Brian Graden. If true, why would she leave the string of successes at Bravo to go to the flailing catastrophe that is now MTV Networks? Perhaps because, right now, Bravo couldn’t get be any hotter, and MTV is nearly at rock bottom. A perfect opportunity to add to Zalaznick’s nearly legendary track record.

Was Ryan Jenkins a Star? Murder-Suicide Causes Media Confusion

If you aren’t yet familiar with salacious and gruesome tale of the murder-suicide of Ryan Jenkins and Jasmin Fiore, watch about 20 minutes of cable news – you’ll quickly get up to speed. But despite the fact that only three episodes of the VH1 reality show he taped ever aired, the MSM has been quick to call Ryan Jenkins a “reality star.” Was he really a “star”?

Fox News Has the Freshest Music Show on TV, Somehow

VIDEO

Most would concede that Red Eye is the best show on at 3 AM, if only because its competition is Jimmy Fallon and Roseanne reruns. But it’s also the best music show on TV — by default. What does that say about the sterility of entertainment coverage?

Goodbye To The Best Week Ever

This was not the best year ever. And I’m not even talking about the economy being a mess.  I’m talking about the fact that VH1’s Best Week Ever may have paid tribute to pop culture news for the final time.
