Al Sharpton Tried His Hand As MSNBC Host Last Night, Took Shots At Glenn Beck

video

MSNBC made an interesting choice for guest host last night as Ed Schultz remains on suspension: none other than Rev. Al Sharpton was filling hosting duties. And, while he seemed a bit shaky at times, he got a big boost from the day’s events. Nothing’s going to help endear you to the MSNBC audience like getting to report on the end of Glenn Beck.

Announcing that Beck was “getting ready to get on his high horse and ride into the sunset,” Sharpton began by showing some of Beck’s sillier clips. He then let his guest, Media Matters’ Eric Boehlert, handle most of the more overtly negative comments, content to deadpan about the Fox News host’s “pearls of wisdom.” However, Sharpton did get one good shot in when he said Beck had never been good with “details” before cutting to a clip of he himself being interviewed on the show. In the clip, Beck mistakenly asks if he had ever worked with Martin Luther King, Jr. and Sharpton points out that he was 13 when the man died.

Boehlert and Sharpton briefly speculated on who would fill Beck’s timeslot without coming up with any answers. Oh! How about Sharpton! That’d be a huge hit over on Fox!

What a shocker. Totally didn’t see this happening.

  • Glackin

He looked nervous at first, but got into it pretty quickly.. Overall, good fill-in, but not Fauxy enough.
Maybe if he bleached his ‘do blond?

  • TfT

MSNBC attacking FNC – how unusual.

Boring….and having the disgraced MM on air? Even more boring.

But oh so typical for NBC…lack of credibility at that network, for sure.

  • Dem4Ever

As long as MSNBC is on the air Glen Beck will never truly be gone. Glen asked me to thank you for all of the free advertising.

  • tatboy

My dog could have predicted this.

  • notsofast

Next time, he will do it in English.

  • notsofast

Al, you should have discussed whether Ed’s suspension was due to racism.

  • LeviCoultify

ok even I think this guy’s a douche lol…. please don’t give this guy a show

  • cjd ohio 1

replace one bigot with another lol

  • NonElite

I watched the first half of this and Sharpton failed the audition miserably. I was embarrassed for him and I don’t even like him.

  • Jerps

Someday Breitbart will bet MSNBC $100,000 they can’t go 24 hours without once mentioning Fox News. And he’ll win.

  • TPRTR

MSNBC has sunk to a new low (and that is really pretty hard to do with their hate filled line-up) but Al Sharpton the premiere ghetto race hustler fraud. What wasn’t Sheila Jackson Lee available? New MSNBC motto: Spiraling Downward into the gutter.

  • SnowSoul

People here seem to think he’s a failure. So, only one conclusion can be reached here: He will soon get a show on MSNBC.

  • TPRTR

Doesn’t surprise considering MSNBC’s lack of standards. The only qualification to work for this gutter cable network is the ability to hate and lie about Republicans/Conservatives or any one who is not drunk on the Obama Kool-Aid!!

  • errxn

Well, why not? Sharpton sure can’t be worse than any of the other dingbats they have on.

If you miss a Fox prime time show any evening just turn in to MSNBC the next day and they’ll fill you in on what you didn’t see.

It’s like cable TIVO for you.

Al Sharpton is the “Democratic Version” of Donald Trump. And Donald Trump is the “Republican Version” of Al Sharpton. Both are crazy, outspoken, brash, don’t really care who they hurt (Sharpton in the Brawley case and Donald Trump in his Birther Crusade) and both ran for President, unsuccessfully.

  • WillP

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if the Mamma Grizzly took over for Beck? OMG. We could have a show on TV everyday for an hour devoted to the traditional values and principles of America. Go Sarah!!! Sarah Palin 2012!!!!!

Trying to watch even a short clip from Mr. Ed’s program with Jackson as host was against the Constitution! Next time I want this much pain i.e., cruel and unusual punishment, I’ll simply get waterboarded!

At least “MSNuts(from)BC” found a sub-host who’s on the same level (in all areas) as the original host!

  • NonElite

It’s mind boggling that MSNBC, the cable “news” network where the most complaints can be found about other people being racist, invites just about the most outspoken racist in the United States to guest host. How can they not see this? I’ve got to quit thinking MSNBC can’t get any worse ’cause they keep proving me wrong.

Hey Al nice suit you wore on the set last night where did you get it, ‘Freddies Fashion Mart’?

  • JasonMays

    Really?!?! Al Sharpton?!!?!

What the hell is wrong with you democrats?

Hey, I hear John Wayne Gacy was a huge Democrat. Why not dig up his bones and give them a show?

  • Barack Must Go

Unfortunate it happen to be Rev. Al, but still nice to see a bit of racial diversity for a change on MSNBC.

  • CAconservative

Silly clips? Anything with this race-bater is silly, MSNBC is silly, people who watch MSNBC are silly, and those that voted for Obimbo are the silliest.
Silly, as in = ludicrous, foolish, air-headed, empty-headed, goofy, pathetic, or anyone buying into the Obimbo,Liberal BS.

  • BarneyFranken

So you have Beck, who has done countless hours of programming, and a few clips out of context in which he is speaking extemporaneously is all you got on him? I thought Media Matters was better than this.

You would think with all the time Media Matters puts into trying to destroy Beck, that they would have been able present something more substantively damaging then the overused “Obama has a deep seeded hatred for white people” which Beck already recanted, or showing Beck barking like a dog.

The truth is, if they had something more damaging on Beck it would be on a constant loop on MSNBC (like the “white people” clip already is) but since most of what Beck says is right on, all you get is this feeble smear attempt where not knowing Reverend Al was too young to know Dr. King is played up as some big deal. Oh God- What a Horrible mistake!! Give me a break.

  • purveyor

Al Sharpton is a racist, Louis Farrakhan is a racist, Jesse jackson, Reverend Wright, the leaders and many followers of La Raza, are racists. Certainly Islam is, to coin a phrase, Religio-Racist.

This is a classic argumentation technique that puts one’s opponent on the defensive, when all the while it is the antagonist that are/is exhibiting the questionable behavior(s). Or, hasn’t anybody noticed this?

The Klan and neo-NAZis are a mere shell of their former selves, however, the Black Panthers block a polling place Philadelphia while racist rants and demands emanate from various non-white communities.

It is called “remedial justice”: meaning, bend the rules of the present to repair the perceived affronts of the past.

Question: When discrimination is used as a tool against discrimination, what is the result?

When we wrote that NBC in general needs more diversity on-air we were certainly not speaking about Al Sharpton. Earth to MSNBC producers!!! Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson are no longer the spokespeople for African Americans nor do we consider using them as either hosts or talking heads a reason for watching your bland, vanilla network. How about Lester Holt, who of course it too busy the network that has a lot higher profile than MSNBC. But maybe one time, if these producers get out in the real world and meet other people beyond their daily circle of contacts, can find someone in the African American or Latino community that isn’t the same boring minority talking heads. But unfortunately I have to agree with Barack Must Go that any minority face as a host on MSNBC is refreshing and quite frankly shocking for this network. But there are much better choices. Maybe a diversity effort needs to be in place in a much deeper way at NBC in general.

    To: REALTVCRITICS and BARACKMUSTGO, etc.

Kurt Vonnegut wrote a series of short stories and put them in a book titled “Welcome to the Monkey House”.

One story was called “Harrison Bergeron”. The main thesis was a future quest to create a “vanilla” society.
If you were beautiful, you were made to wear a partial mask. If you were athletic, you wore weights. If you were intelligent, an ear implant scattered your thoughts.

I found the story both profound and disturbing. I think any of you would enjoy…

Ergo, I am always wary of artificial institutions. “Celebrate diversity”, or, perhaps celebrate competence!

Typical Sharpton–Lowlife Extraordinaire. The takeaway is simply how utterly STUPID his constituents are for electing him time and time again.

    PYROPE,

Respectfully, I think you have confused Sharpton with Charlie Rangell. I too dislike Sharpton. (put mildly) However, Rangell did recieve a Purple Heart for wounds received in Korea. Hence, Sharpton deserves that rather large piece of respect.

    TO: BARNEYFANKEN,

I’ve been following your insightful posts. I am one the people giving you a “thumbs up” in case you didn’t know?

    As for Media Matters:

Should come as no surprise. The organization is a classic Socialist tool, little different from those that Marx, Eugene Debs or Lenin and company would have produced. (Did you know Milwaukee elected 4 Socialist Mayors in the 20s and 30s?) Ergo, unapologetic propaganda–the end justifies the means. Little has changed since the days of Bolshevik disinformation.

Nah, they’re both dirtbags for different reasons. Rangel might have been a worthwhile human being at one time but the goodness has been driven from him long ago. He (and Sharpton) have sold their souls.

I understand and accept your point.

Never the less, I always try to give the benefit of the doubt to America’s Warriors. However, recently, a number have disappointed me, Rangel, Wesley Clarke, John Kerry, Even John McCain, who, in another context, is a National treasure.

Where does Colonel Oliver North fit in this discussion? (the word “ambivalent” may be apropos)

James Webb was the consummate infantry commander, Served as Secretary of the Navy and then, wrote a heck a book (Fields of Fire)

Have you ever read the book: “The Nightingale’s Song, by Robert Tinberg? Is about famous American Warriors who lost their honor and a few who salvaged it.

Anyway, PYROPE, point taken. In fact, in another Post somewhere out there, I flat out assert that Sharpton, Jackson and Farrakhan etc., racists! (easily provable)

I have concluded that in America, today, African Americans and Hispanics, as groups, constitute the greatest source of racism. MLKing would be broken hearted and appalled. I am certain the good Reverend would agree–There is still not a “table of brotherhood”.

To all the haters,.Why???? is it whenever we have a black leader who speaks out aganist racism and injustice they’re called trouble makers and race baters…M L King was also called a racist and trouble makers by some of you on the right.. ..Rosa Parks was a trouble maker.. and Mergar Evers a NAACP activist assassinated for his work on segregation,to name a few.

Blacks are only 12% of the population and we also fought and slaved to make this country the super power it is today– with unequal growth and justice.

Oh, by the way AL I think you did a great job, keep up the good work . To the uninformed, you can’t compare Sharpton and Jackson to Farrakhan…Farrakhan views are totally different, he spews hate, and separation of the races..So get it right and don’t speak with fork tongue………Thank you msnbc, I know your rating were up that hour.. If Fox news can broadcast views Hannity, and O’Reily etc… there should’nt be a protest against Sharpton (fair and balance)……

  • Joseph

Al Sharpton who professes to be a Minister of God, suggests he rejects the Defense Of Marriage Act, which is clearly stated in the major religious scriptures as a proposition between males and females.  Didn’t God declare homosexuality as an abomination?  Doesn’t he believe in Gods Word? I’m a Democrat basically, but I’m not stupid.  I fear Gods wrath.
