O’Reilly says some stupid shit, but it’s usually about the “issue” as he sees it, rather than the “man” -which is to say, he has a modicum of social intelligence, unlike many of the other repulsive talking heads. He was kidding that the guy looks nothing like a drug dealer. You can tell that the guy didn’t take it as an insult, but as a joke -his retort followed the same formula: “and you look like a drug addict, because haha, no you don’t at all.” In fact, it’s kind of fucked up that in innocuous joke is automatically perceived as insult because the man is black.

What would the reaction have been if the humor had been self-deprecating? What if O’Reilly had said, “Hey, I look like a cocaine user, and you look like a cocaine dealer ….” Self-deprecation can be a powerful tool. The great win in the Arizona immigration debate came about as the result of all of those pinto bean Swastikas.

Since when does sensitivity mean anything? “Kissing butt” HA! I hardly think so. Mr. 0′Reilly must be doing something right, he has enjoyed the highest ratings in cable news for YEARS! If you want to talk about “rude” take a look at Overbite, Mouthews, Madcow, Rat-again, and the rest of the non-contenders.

I love MLH — don’t always agree with him (or anyone else, for that matter), but he’s engaging, smart, has the most beautiful smile I think I’ve ever seen, and is definitely funny as heck. He will work a joke or crack in anywhere he possibly can.

He and O’Reilly kid with each other all the time. Same thing when he’s on that late night program (Red-Eye?). He is someone secure enough to make and take a joke and to know when something is said in jest, and he does his fair share of the ribbing, too (ALL in fun).

Had that been said as a serious comment, it would be extremely egregious. But these two pick at each other like that often. Believe me, MLH is not in the least shy about speaking up, and I haven’t read or heard anything from him to indicate that was anything other than two guys who like to have fun kidding and poking at each other. It’s a big to-do about nothing.
