CNN Is Now Searching for the Santa Maria
CNN broke news Wednesday morning of wreckage discovered off an island coast. Finally, after nine weeks of intense searching, and, you know, another five hundred years, the Santa Maria may have been found.
CNN brought its normal level of hologramitude to the search for the Christopher Columbus’ ship, using fancy flatscreens and markers and phallic drawings, but the network least seems to have attained some self-awareness about its monomaniacal hunt for MH370. “For all the stories about what we can’t find, here’s a story about something they may have actually found,” host Chris Cuomo said at the start of the segment. Fair!
Note also the chyron at the bottom of the screen. Two weeks ago that would have blazed BREAKING, as it unfortunately did about Titanic sinking; this morning, it read a more restrained “Trending Now” — still doubtful about the Santa Maria, but at least dialed down a few settings.
We’ll know CNN has gone all in when it gets a big Haiti floor map thingy.
