Eric Cantor Criticizes President Obama For Addressing Birth Certificate Controversy

video

With this morning’s shocking revelation by the White House of the long form birth certificate confirming that President Barack Obama was in fact born in Hawaii (gasp!), Fox News turned first for political reaction to House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (gasp!) for his thoughts on this historic day when the entire nation can rejoice and celebrate the legitimacy of our president (hooray!) However, Mr. Cantor chose not to see this day as one to celebrate, rather, he shockingly took the view that President Obama should not be wasting the nation’s time on such a silly non-issue (gasp!)

America’s Newsroom host Bill Hemmer had Cantor on as guest and immediately asked Cantor for his reaction to the news of release of the long form birth certificate, and Cantor did not demure in his critique of the White House saying “I have criticized members of my own party for making this some kind of an issue and so I am really surprised that the White House is doing the same.”

Wasn’t Eric Cantor one of the politicians who wouldn’t definitively say the President was an American citizen? What a tool. And a hypocrite. The Republicans’ new talking point: That the President caved in to the racist birthers.

We have a number of perpetually unhappy politicians of both parties, don’t we? I fear we have become a glum, negative nation.

Let’s face it, had POTUS announced this morning that he had found a 100% cure for Cancer and Cancer would be wiped out world wide by the end of the summer, the GOP would crap on Obama for increasing unemployment among drug company researchers and hospital staff and forcing funeral homes to lay off staff which would only further hurt the economy.

    Mr. Cantor.

    A bit of advice here.

Maybe, just maybe, in the interest of saving some decency for your party, maybe you could address the republicans at large who tried to take advantage of this non-issue. You know, like those idiots in Arizona and their birfher bill and like minded racist morons in other states.

    Just a suggestion.

Had he done it earlier, we would have been able to avoid all this silliness. Who cares who started it, and what reasons you imagine the started it for… it had enough steam for him to address it, so everyone could stop wasting their time. But, it was a political calculation… used by he Obama team (and those willing to play in the media) to take a segment of the right, and criticize them without ever really having to say anything themselves. It was a strategy.

My only real question is, “Why now?” I thought they would have waited to release the certificate closer to the election, hopefully trying to trap the Republican candidate into some “birtherism” first. I don’t see a huge gain -politically- coming from this… certainly not this early in the election process.

Your premise is that somehow HE is responsible for “avoiding all this silliness”. That’s like a small town girl being labeled a whore; eventually proving to the town she’s not; then being told she could have “avoided all this silliness” by caving to the distasteful creeps earlier. Even if Obama had shown this birth certificate at the start, rethugs would say that this is a forgery too. Why? They don’t want to admit in public that they are truly racist and can’t stand the fact that a black man is smarter than they they are. Now that I’ve had my say..I’m done with this subject. Totally done!

    “Why now?”

I don’t think doing it now was a political strategy. My guess is Barack and Michelle simply got sick of Trump dominating the news with it, and making it a mainstream topic. The theory is extremely offensive to African-Americans, and I think Obama decided the harm to the country was too much.

Obama doesn’t think like that. He’s actually stoked racial animosity for his own political gain on numerous occasions (Y’all been hoodwinked; Punish your enemies). When Obama acts, it’s always for the benefit of Barack Obama.

Wrong-o. The only person who could have stopped this was Obama. Goofy people with goofy theories cannot be stopped. Should the Democrats come out more forcefully to stop the loony left from saying Bush knew about 9/11? Would that have stopped it?

Obama was the only one who could end it completely… he was the only one with the ability to say, “Here!” and end it. In your example, how would the girl have been able to “cave” to the creeps? Are the situations really the same? For Obama to “cave,” he would have had to make a few phone calls, let some television stations and perhaps even one of the loony critics take a look at it, and then walk away. Hell… it could have been arranged by one of his staffers, and start to finish done before lunch.

But… that wouldn’t have been so politically valuable.

Why is the theory offensive to “African Americans?” Because there was some questions about Obama’s youth, that somehow is an indictment about all African Americans? What are you trying to say? The left screamed that Bush was super stupid… should I have taken that as a criticism about White people?

No, this was a political strategy… which I’ve been saying since the beginning. He knew that by making an issue out of it, and not letting it go away, he could later cash it in for political points. He knew that his friends in the media would call anyone who even thought about questioning it a “racist,” as the Journolist scandal showed. He knew that as such, he could essentially threaten the undecided voters saying, “Do you really want to be aligned -for us to think you’re aligned- with these racists?” It was a strategy… and you played (are playing) your part very well.

  • Rgentum

So Cantor says he chastised members of his own caucus for being birthers? Isn’t he the “majority leader”? And yet he couldn’t get them to drop the issue. What a terrible, terrible leader. Maybe he should spend less time trolling for tweens at Britney Spears concerts:

Blue, I’ve learned something through this process: most conservatives have very little knowledge of historical racism. It amazes me how many times I’ve confronted this. “African, not American” was a charge used against blacks for generations to deligitimize them as “real Americans” worthy of full American rights and freedoms. The birther story is deeply racist, and deeply offensive.

Has Eric Cantor ever been happy? He whines more than any Virginian I’ve ever met, and I have met some whiney Virginians. He probably represents Northern Virginia…the part that really wanted to be part of the Union.

Once again, I get attacked from a LIBERAL when I dismiss Donald Trump and the birth certificate nonsense. This has happened a hundred times. I never get push back from the Right; always from the Left. Face it, the Left doesn’t want to let this birther issue go. Then they would need to talk about the economy, the war, the border, the deficit, and all the REAL issues that they want to hide from view. Tough luck for them. You can’t hide the Obama disaster no matter how much you try to change the topic to his place of birth.

Haha…LIBERAL ATTACK! Try and ease up a bit, Turbo. I’ve just been reading you going on for quite awhile about how this birther thing is all some liberal media plot to make Republicans look crazy. Well, that’s just not true my friend. Guess what was the topic on Dennis Miller’s radio show today? And Sean Hannity? I referenced those blogs because they’re still going on about it, too. It’s really just the sensationalistic garbage that is our news these days.

I bring this to your attention because sometimes I like to engage people who have different opinions. You can find plenty of comments of mine pertaining to useful topics. In fact, I too frequently lament that this story is so omnipresent. I also like to try and find some middle ground with conservatives and show that not all ills in this country are the fault of dastardly Democrats. Unfortunately, it seems you’re pretty much out to lunch.

Really Eric? You and your party of idiots are the one’s who are supposed to initiate fiscal policy in the House of Representatives but, what legislation have you put forward? Anti Abortion legislation, defunding NPR, and the EPA . This is why you’re all going to get your asses handed to you again in 2012. Between Ryan’s budget and the entire GOP voting against legislation that Dems put forward to end big oil subsidies, the public has finally pulled their heads from their asses and figured out that the GOP baggers don’t give a damn about the usefull idiots who voted for them. You and the cowards in your party had the chance to end this birther bullshit the minute it began but, chose to wink and nod. Now, this will just be one more issue that buries you all!

    EXCELLENT POST

I disagree with Cantor, it was past time Obama proved who he was. The only person who veted him was Pelosi and her word is not to be trusted, as she has proved, so yes, it was past time. Maybe we would still have some good officers serving in the military instead of sitting in prison for questioning Obama’s birth, but he had a childish refusal about releasing it. His father was a Kenyan and owed his loyalty to Great Britton, but I could care less about that. What I care about is that we have a horrible president, one who is doing nothing but hurting America and Americans. Yes, Mr Canter, Obama had much more important things to deal with, but he would have spent that time on the golf course, the basketball court, or going on vacation, so what difference does it make if he addressed the Birth issue finally, he still would not have done anything to help get America going again, as he has proved, over and over.

ALLEN WEST 2012! A Proven Leader and Patriot who has served his country Honorably.

Wasn’t Eric Cantor one of the politicians who wouldn’t definitively say the President was an American citizen? What a tool. And a hypocrite. The Republicans’ new talking point: That the President caved in to the racist birthers.
    ——–

No Katherine – Eric Cantor wasn’t one of them!.
You lie – and then you have the audacity to try to generate “business” to your absolutely ignorant blog!

You are a hypocrite and a liar and basically pretty stupid (people who knowingly lie, or blowhard bloggers who are not bright enough to check facts before they post nonsense are stupid.

You don’t seem to get it – most people don’t give a flying fig where the man was born – he’s doing a horrible job – has nothing to do with his place of birth – has to do with his complete lack of experience. Arranging garage sales as a community organizer does not qualify you to run anything !

The birther story was a freaking side show by the left to take the heat off incompetence! That my dear has been proven.

Every idiot lefty “reporter” had the same stupid question of any republican politician who appeared on their show “do you deny…. blah blah – what kind of journalistic garbage is that?

Could go further – Over 70 people died in horrible storms today and where was our esteemed Pres? Sitting on freaking Oprah’s couch! Meanwhile, remember they wanted Bush out there leading traffic out of New Orleans. God you people are beyond contempt.

Why wold anyone give this person any air time? He obviously would have something bad to say about the president if he announced a conversion experience and that he was going to resign from the presidency and enter a monastery.

Here is sharing some thoughts with Eric Cator the YOUNG Majority Leader along with John Bohner. This is not a prediction, it is just good thoughts to ponder. I think Billionaire are so fixateed on the fear factor from Labor Unions and Socialism–Communism that they need wisdon so as to understand there is nothing to fear but fear itself so as to avoid the mistakes of our forefathers. The following was ment for rich and poor.

Communism started when the rich ate all the pie and none was left for those who did most of the work that made the pie taste good. Those who did most of the work organized and overthrew the wealthy and through dividing up the pie became as corrupt as previous Leaders before them. History will repeat its self here in American if everyone doesn’t get together and do a good job of compromising. Compromising doesn’t mean the wealthy live high on the hog while most of the labor force is homeless or near homeless. If you don’t understand what I just said, there is a good chance you are headed towards making the same mistake previous leaders made (your dumb great granddaddies of years ago) many years ago in Russia. Courtesy, harmony and fair play is contagious only when displayed by the most powerful among us. Do you hear me Billionaires and billionaire wannabes?
