Florida Shooting Survivor Calls For Action: ‘Children Will Continue to Die if We Don’t Take a Stand Now’

David Hogg, an 18-year-old student at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, issued a call for action on CNN the morning after surviving the horrific mass shooting that left 17 dead.

The high school senior, who said he and others were rescued by a heroic janitor who diverted them from the direction of the shooter, noted on CNN that his sister had two of her best friends die at the hands of the gunman.

“That’s not acceptable,” Hogg said. “That’s not something we should let happen in this country, especially when we’re going to school.”

“The fact that this is the 18th school shooting, and this is only February, is a testament to where this country has come.”

“We need to dig out of this hole,” he continued. “There is something seriously wrong here. And some of our policymakers…need to look in the mirror and take some action because ideas are great, but without action, ideas stay ideas and children die.”

Later in the interview, Hogg continued to call for action in response to the massacre, stating, “children will continue to die if we don’t take a stand now.”

“I’m going to continue learning, so we can prevent this from happening again,” he said. “Please, this is the 18th one this year. That’s unacceptable. We’re children, you guys are the adults. You need to take some action and play a role. Work together, come over your politics, and get something done.
