Former GOP Rep Slams Rubio, FL Gov For ‘Hiding’ From CNN on Gun Debate: ‘Weak-Kneed Ideologues’
New Day anchor Chris Cuomo ticked off the list; Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), Gov. Rick Scott (R-FL), Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX).
What did those three have in common? All appeared on Fox & Friends Thursday morning, in the wake of the Parkland, FL school shooting. And all spurned invitations from CNN.
“What are they afraid of?” Cuomo said.
David Jolly had an answer. A former Republican Congressman from Florida, Jolly has been a staunch critic of the GOP on the issue of guns. And Thursday on New Day, he slammed the two most high-profile politicians in his home state, as well as the Texas Senator, for their unwillingness to defend their positions on the issue in a forum that might not be as friendly to them.
“They’re weak-kneed ideologues,” Jolly said. He added, “They don’t have the courage to stand in front of the American people and admit they don’t have solutions to these issues, and they are hiding from the American people on it.”
Wednesday night on CNN, Jolly said that “Republicans will never do anything on gun control.” He doubled down on the criticism of his party Thursday.
“I’m a Republican. And I wish Republicans would address universal background checks, responsible gun control measures,” Jolly said. “But they’re not doing it. And so it’s not that I want Democrats for ideological reasons to take control of the House. But the reality is, in the wake of these mass casualty firearm events, only the Democrats are speaking to reasonable gun control today. Republicans are hiding from the American people.”
