Fox Calls Doctors Writing Sick Slips In WI “Fraud,” CNN Calls It “Helping Out”

Video

As news in the Wisconsin union protests continues to develop, it’s interesting to get different perspectives on the same events. Are public school teachers unfairly being asked to make economic sacrifices and noble for standing up for themselves or are they selfishly calling in sick and wrong for forcing kids to miss out on school? Your answer might depend on which news channel you’re watching.

On Fox News, Mike Tobin interviewed some residents of the state who claimed that it was extremely easy to get a doctor to give them a sick note, thus enabling public employees to take off from work to protest without any risk. News anchor Gregg Jarrett responded, “That’s incredible news if it’s true. That’s basically fraud by doctors incidental to the breach of a teacher contract, which prohibits them from calling in sick to protest.”

Over on CNN, the story was essentially the same, but the tone decidedly different. Casey Wian reported that “Doctors are writing notes . . . they’re helping out the teachers. There’s some concern that some of those doctors may be putting themselves in jeopardy because they are writing notes for teachers who obviously aren’t sick.” Anchor Martin Savage just responded with “very interesting.”

Given that it’s potentially illegal and unethical for a doctor to write someone a sick note for work when they are perfectly healthy, whether such behavior is merely “helping out” is up for you to decide.

Interesting, indeed. Is there any wonder why more people turn to Fox for their news, than CNN? Those teachers should all be ashamed of themselves and the doctors should lose their licenses.

Teachers are already underpaid, they can protest if they want to. Republicans don’t understand that they already are underpaid to both babysit and teach children.

Now they are supposed to sit there and have their rights taken away? Sorrry I support the teachers, the rest of you can burn in a ditch for all I care.

Seems like CNN is determined to make a run at MSNBC for the “looney left”.

Well, you can support the teachers’ right to protest anything they wish, but that doesn’t mean that they also have the right to expect that there are no consequences with their decision to essentially strike. To insist that their cause is so just that it transcends acts of fraud.

Frankly, the dynamics of any dispute is that both sides have certain pressures and thus the impetus to make concessions.

  • More Liberty4

I support the teachers right to protest. As I support everyone right to protest but to quote Obama “Elections have consequences.”

OMG…they are being asked to pay a portion of their pension and health benefits like the rest of America. What a shame.

90k a year for salary and benefits and lifetime benefits without being able to be fired, all for a part-time job, is underpaid?????????? You must be off your meds.

And if they aren’t showing to work, why shouldn’t an employer have the ability to fire them?

    Jobs are not rights.

Retirement after 20 years service and health care for life in many districts throughout the country. Every federal holiday, sick leave and comp time. And they can retire and go back to work for the district, and “double dip”. All for the kids.

This myth that teachers are underpaid has been floated around for while and it’s been echoed by Hollywood in their self-rightous speeches when they are accepting their oscars for working 16 weeks and making 9 million dollars. The teachers are not underpaid and they are not the problem. The thuggish unions are the problem along with Trumka. If Obama was a true leader, he would scold the cowardly dems who are hiding out and tell them that it it their job to show up to vote. He would also scold the teachers who are out protesting instead of teaching and lastly, he should scold the doctors who are out their giving out fake doctor’s notes.

Fox gives you the conservative version (which in this case is the right version) of events. CNN gives you the brain dead version. It’s been amazing what CNN lets its interviewees get away with without comment. The only time I turned it to CNN they were just letting some WI lunatic drone on about how the “right wingers” were trying to destroy the country.

Fox News may just as well be working out of the Governor’s Office. If one good thing comes out of this mess in Wisconsin, its that Fox News really cannot continue to claim to be a News Network. They could not be more helpful to the Governor’s position even if they worked for the Administration. To my mind it just is not Possible that for a whole week a so called News Network, and EVERYONE OF ITS ON AIR TALENT, can see no problem with the Governor’s position but all of them seem to feel comfortable in condemning the UNIONS POSITION.

This isn’t News reporting its called in the real World “PROPAGANDA”…..Fox-News is simply an arm of the Republican Party, if you don’t believe that, you are a fool and no longer to be taken seriously……

The protesters in Egypt are screaming for democracy, the democrats in WI and the WH are trying to subvert it.

OK, I’ll bite. What, exactly, is Fox “lying” about this time?

  • tatboy

I’m willing to bet that the majority of American right now are…

    1) Out of work… or
    2) Spouse is out of work… or
    3) Have a close friends of family member who is out of work.

My wife has been out of work for 1.5 years and has a masters degree. Her last 3 jobs ended when the companies went under.

My yearly bonus and raise stopped 2 years ago due to my hospital loosing a lot on it’s trust accounts. We all had to sacrifice to keep everyone working and not have heaver work loads due to a worker shortage. So far no one had had to be fired. Although we slower hiring, no one has has yo take extra shifts of lose their job. This is a private business and can do this with ease.

Now take a look at these state paid (taxes) workers wanting nothing to fall on them and asking everyone else to give a little more so that give up nothing.

The WI unions have given in to the financial argument. They’re trying to hold onto their bargaining rights.

Here’s my question: When does a right become an educational reform right (class, size, professional responsibilities, etc) instead of a citizen-based right to fair pay, sick leave, etc? WI has the following law in place, http://legis.wisconsin.g…ov/statutes/Stat0230.pdf (not sure what the latest version is).

So my question is, when do rights turn from fair state laws as granted by being a citizen and those based on the idea of education reform? Shouldn’t these rights for class room size debates and so on be considered at the local level? I’m interested as to what other folks think on this matter.

I wouldn’t necessarily call teaching a part-time opportunity and it’s more near $100,000 for the wages and benefits earned per year. I will agree with teachers that they do spend money on their classrooms that they shouldn’t have to, but the other stuff shouldn’t be a collective bargaining right, right? When does collective bargaining turn into nanny state governance?

As a person that has built buildings in the state of WI, my mother is getting really sick of all of the stuff going on. If it continues, she’s going to call the Capitol and check on capacity size (due to safety concerns) and on why the Capitol is staying open after visiting hours. Oh where can we start with this, Limbaugh’s show was first nationally syndicated in August 1988. In April 2006, Limbaugh turned himself in and was arrested “on a single charge of prescription fraud”.

So how could a guy that got charged in 2006 get a Syndication radio deal in 1988?

Oh wait I just saw your Avitar, isn’t that guy up on drug charges and could be possibly going to jail himself?

From Winki: On September 11, 2009 Jeff Hardy was arrested on charges of trafficking in controlled prescription pills and possession of anabolic steroids, after a search of his house yielded 262 Vicodin prescription pills, 180 soma prescription pills, 555 milliliters of anabolic steroids, a residual amount of powder cocaine, and drug paraphernalia.

Remember those “competent expert medical professionals” (working for BP OIL) who certified that the Lockerbie Bomber Abdel Basset al-Megrahi was minutes away from death so he HAD to be released from prison (so BP could complete its oil deal with Libya)? (FYI: years later, al-Megrahi is STILL partying in Libya.) Those are they same type of medical b-tards that flooded NY to “certify” thousands and thousands of “public servants” for BILLIONS of dollars in give-aways under the lunatic-left d-crat socialist atrocious taxpayer rip-off bill of “benefits” for 911 workers. And, if that’s not enough, thousands of the california-based “competent expert medical professionals” who certify the dire need for medical pot for millions of california stoners each and every day joined the other money-grubbers in that massive shafting of the American taxpayer. So, it certainly is no surprise that these medical lowlifes are in Wisconsin cashing-in on the dereliction of responsibility by the unethical, unscrupulous union teachers to “certify” their LIES about being sick so they can further rip-off taxpayers.

I haven’t paid any attention to this story beyond what’s been reported on this website because a teacher strike in another part of the country has absolutely nothing to do with me, but…

Martin’s “very interesting” is like his “we’ll have to leave it there” and it appeared from the clip that he wasn’t paying any attention to the report, he was just waiting for his cue.

As for the post’s assertion that the doctor’s writing the notes is “not legal”, I’m not familiar with Wisconsin law and perhaps there is a criminal statute, but it looks more to me that if the state were to sue the teacher for the pay issued on a day they weren’t sick, then the doctor could also be sued. In other words in my opinion, it sounds a little misleading to imply that something that could theoretically become an issue in civil court is “not legal”, if for no other reason, a court would still have to decide.

  • rover37

This is all going to backfire on the teachers and unions. Almost eerybody thinks the teachers are being babies and the unions are being thugs. There benifits are better than 90% of working americans and they are bitching. I hope they all get fired. Regan fired the air traffic workers… I say we fire every teacher who lied about being sick or used FAKE Dr’s letters…

Also, being a liberal, I would think you would think it eco to take a bus rather than to drive. Did you even watch the rally? Folks talked real briefly and a lot of them that talked were local folks – including a radio personality and two tea party leaders. When your argument can be nullified by the opposition (both sides bused in), that’s a pretty weak argument.

I don’t know. I find it hard to have sympathy for the teachers when they can strike any damned time they want, and even when they can’t, they can find a political shortcut to get around it, and then manipulate their students to do what they want them to.

Especially when you’re asking people who make less total compensation than you to pay higher taxes in order to fund your pension and healthcare. I make less than 1/3 of what the average teacher makes, and I’m not willing to give up even MORE of that so they can keep their sweet retirement deal. If my taxes go up, I won’t be able to afford my apartment anymore, and I’m already living in the cheapest complex within an hour radius of where I work. I never claimed they made $100k. I am pointing out what they actually make, and the amount Wisconsin spends on salaries AND the amount they spend in benefits.

Salary expenditure on all teachers: $3,571,389,694
    Benefits expenditures for teachers: $1,719,827,769

If a state is spending $3.5B on salaries, and half of that ($1.7B) on benefits, then can we make an assumption that teachers on average receive their salary, and then an additional half of their salary in benefits? (the answer is yes, based on the info here: http://dpi.wi.gov/lbstat/newasr.html)

So, whatever the salary is, you can assume they receive an additional ~half of that in added benefits.

Democrats are so morally bankrupt. They don’t recognize fraud and lying when it is front of their noses. Its the union bosses who are so worried about losing $600 to $800 per public employee that are orchestrating these demonstrations – with Obama’s organizing for America.

Obama doesn’t understand state’s rights – sue Arizona, and shout-down Wisconsin.

    Yes.

But see, it’s not that they don’t “recognize fraud and lying”, it’s that their belief system precludes them from caring about it. Their belief system is not normal.

Normal people work towards making things better and finding success. Modern Liberals/Progressives don’t think like this. Their imperative is to force everything to be “equal.” So when we are trying to make things better, they do berserk.

In their minds, if everything was “equal”, all of our societal problems will go away. No more arguing. No more fighting. No more war. No more poverty. No more injustices. It’s Utopian.

This is how they think and nothing will get in the way of this thinking. So strong is this belief system that they will lie, cheat, etc. to get their way.

But their ideas can never work. First, before anything else, in order to force everything to be “equal”, they have to treat people unequally. It can never work as it just creates tension.

BUT, to them, all of the pain that their ideas create are ACCEPTABLE. Think about the inner cities. These places have been utterly controlled by these liberals for 50 years and about all we can say is that there is a lot of hopelessness, despair and death. We can also say the Modern Liberals/Progressives have not and will not adapt to help the people.

So yes, they are morally bankrupt. it’s because they don’t use the same belief system and theirs always ends up hurting people over time.

More and more people are figuring this out. We just need to keep working at undermining them by telling the truth. They can’t handle the truth.

Does anyone believe the DOJ will go after these criminal doctors? Of course not!! Not when their doing Obimbo’s bidding. After all, Obimbo’s DOJ only supports and enforces law they deem worthy enough for their cause.

Holder is a criminal himself and protects the Black Panthers in Philly when they threaten voters with guns. He’s too busy looking for right-wing militias in the deep forest when the left-wing criminals are invading and infesting the WI State Capitol.
