GOP Gov. John Kasich Doesn’t Want To Predict Obama Is A One Term President
Ohio Republican Governor John Kasich appeared with Bob Schieffer this morning and was eager to speak about the importance of putting political differences aside to solve the country’s biggest problems. Possibly due to the importance of the budget crisis or a desire to seem above the political fray, Kasich then passed on an opportunity to praise the Republican presidential candidates over President Obama.
When Schieffer wondered whether he thought Obama would be a one-term President, Kasich rather unenthusiastically commented, “I am not a predictor here. I think it will be a tight, close election because of the economic problems.” Instead, Kasich offered advice to politicians of both parties:
“At the end of the day, you look at yourself in the mirror, and you say to yourself, ‘Did I do what was right for families and for children? And if I paid a political price, so what?’ I mean, there’s too much posturing. There’s too much thinking about your party, yourself.”
Such a plea to forget about party loyalty is surprising to come from a newly elected governor rather than someone like Independent New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg who repeatedly makes such calls. Although maybe the real reason Kasich hesitated to wish Obama only one term is because Kasich’s participation in the recent “Golf Summit” between Obama and Speaker of the House John Boehner resulted in some warm feelings being left over for the President?
