GOP Gov. John Kasich Doesn’t Want To Predict Obama Is A One Term President

Video

Ohio Republican Governor John Kasich appeared with Bob Schieffer this morning and was eager to speak about the importance of putting political differences aside to solve the country’s biggest problems. Possibly due to the importance of the budget crisis or a desire to seem above the political fray, Kasich then passed on an opportunity to praise the Republican presidential candidates over President Obama.

When Schieffer wondered whether he thought Obama would be a one-term President, Kasich rather unenthusiastically commented, “I am not a predictor here. I think it will be a tight, close election because of the economic problems.” Instead, Kasich offered advice to politicians of both parties:

“At the end of the day, you look at yourself in the mirror, and you say to yourself, ‘Did I do what was right for families and for children? And if I paid a political price, so what?’ I mean, there’s too much posturing. There’s too much thinking about your party, yourself.”

Such a plea to forget about party loyalty is surprising to come from a newly elected governor rather than someone like Independent New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg who repeatedly makes such calls. Although maybe the real reason Kasich hesitated to wish Obama only one term is because Kasich’s participation in the recent “Golf Summit” between Obama and Speaker of the House John Boehner resulted in some warm feelings being left over for the President?

Because the country is so split by partisanship that every Presidential election from here on out will be close. 2008 was about as big a landslide as we’ll see anymore.

When you have Kasich and Scott in Ohio and Florida it’s going to be really hard to sell people n the “limited government, constitution protectors” BS that the GOP peddles every time they want to win power away from the Democrats. These guys ran commercials identical to the ones the GOP candidate will run in 2012 and people hate Kasich and DESPISE Rick Scott

    Good luck with that, GOP

In order to make the list, I have to predict WHICH Republican is going to beat Obama? Darn. Not ready to go quite that far, yet…

You better tell all the Liberals to keep their mouths shut then.

I think John is being the man, as opposed to obama’s being the manchild.

Someone needs to be a grown up and clearly Obama, Mr.I ME MY, doesn’t have a clue. Even Evan Thomas of Time Mag (he of “Obama is a god” fame, has turned and now is pissed that Obama is acting on behalf of only his party and not the country…..).

So three cheers to the man in the room, the republican Governor. Perhaps Obama should get a clue.

That’s why his bill is getting overturned by the people.

  • CAconservative

Gov.John Kasich response to that question was the typical butt-covering answer we’ve come to expect. If the economy is anywhere near the numbers we’re seeing today, this clown will be shown the door! And the numbers will reflect our disgust of this inept president and his socialist administration.

  • AIO_7

“That’s why his bill is getting overturned by the people.”

And then hopefully Kasich will be recalled….what a Fox News BUM!

I’ll tell you one thing, the jury is still out as to President Obama’s re-election. But there is NO way John Kasich is going to be re-elected governor of Ohio in ’14. And that’s *if* Kasich runs for re-election. The citizens of Ohio are about ready to run Kasich out of the state with pitchforks and torches. He has approval ratings not much higher than LeBron James there in the Buckeye state. Personally, I think Kasich can’t wait to head back to Lehman Brothers, cash in, and wallow in massive amounts of crooked money.

  • LOGICandREASON

Matt Schneider, I realize the title of this article was merely to attract visitors/readers to the Mediaite website.

Actually the explanation by John Kasich had VERY LITTLE to do with “GOP Gov. John Kasich Doesn’t Want To Predict Obama Is A One Term President”

It’s fine anyway, at least it seems to work for you guys at Mediaite according to the online traffic reports.

  • LOGICandREASON

@Matt Schneider, a better heading would be: “GOP Gov. John Kasich worries that politicians of this generation are more concerned about their political careers”

That’s why I haven’t predicted anything. Where you came up with me stating Bachmann would be president – you only know, because I haven’t said. It would be stupid to predict this early.

have to see all the slime that left throws at them – and who remains standing.

lol – a tongue in cheek response to a stupid comment on why you or whoever said it hates Bachman. Honestly – take a chill pill.

p.s. I’m much to lazy to go back and see what dumb comment I responded to – but let me assure you – I don’t know if all names are in the hat yet – and we will see who the left pushes and figure out the whys and why nots from there.

    …but thanks for your concern.

    HEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    I agree with Obama!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is TIME for a two state solution!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is TIME for the productive and the state run welfare system (public unions) to split. HE IS ABSOLUTELY RIGHT!

I vote for the Obama solution! The US should split into two different states, the communist one he advocates and the REPUBLIC that which we stand!

Maybe if there was term limits for congress, They would do right by the people who sent them there instead of the special interests.

That is positively the most coherent thing you have ever posted her, of course it’s totally unrelated to the post here, but nonetheless, I’m heartened to see a moment of clarity break through your normally cloudy state of mind.

He didn’t even remotely say that, nice try though. You should help write the headlines here.

It’s about time the grown-up Republicans showed up.

  • X-3

Why would he want to incite the liberals by saying that? Never let anyone outside the family know what you’re thinking.
