In February, Univision Beat NBC, Growing Its Audience As Four Major Nets Lost Ground

The continued rise of Spanish-language Univision was on display in February, as the network passed NBC to become America’s fourth network–regardless of language. And on Friday nights in February, Univision was the country’s top-rated network among the coveted demographic of viewers 18-34. “We are thrilled that Univision continues to deliver season-to-date growth while solidifying its position as a top five network in the U.S., competing head to head with ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC,” said Cesar Conde, president, Univision Networks, in a statement.

You may never have watched a program on Univision, but you’ve probably seen some of the major network shows that failed to outperform Univision in February. Take, for instance, the Univision telenovela, Eva Luna, watched by an average audience of 2.5 million viewers 18-49. Those ratings easily bet ABC’s Private Practice, CBS’ The Amazing Race, NBC’s Community, and Fox’s Fringe.

The Univision news show Aqui y Ahora (Here and Now) beat network news shows among younger viewers, including ABC’s 20/20, CBS’ 60 Minutes and NBC’s Dateline. And in a statistic sure to cause indigestion at the English language networks, the audience for Univision’s entertainment and news programs is growing, while ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox lost ground. Univision was up 6 percent versus a year ago, while all four English language networks were down, NBC the worst, with a 16 percent drop.

The networks are after the younger audience because of the money they spend not because they have brains or that they vote. Just read the comments of the people in that age group that post here about politics.

BTW: I haven’t looked lately, but I’ve blogged in the past that Univision (and Telemundo) should consider running English subtitles on CC2. Naturally with the growth in the Spanish-speaking populations including those who learned it as a second language, plus the increased saturation of cable and over the air affiliates, the Spanish-language stations are growing. If they were to utilize CC2 for those who don’t speak the language, their potential would know no limits.

If it was up to you, everyone would have to be 55+ to vote. Don’t worry you will still get that social security until the Republicans take it away from you.

Univision is among the top Five news media? How about we get our priorities in line! What the hell is story telling us, and just why would be thrilled knowing that there are enough illegal aliens, or non-English speaking people in the United States to support Univision?!! When the hell did that become acceptable in an English speaking country? Even the UK has recognizes the fact that two cultures cannot exist in the same geographic area, hence, the need for borders!

If you look up some of the content they air, especially sitcoms showing black people get bananas thrown at them while being called a monkey, Go search for Racist Mexican TV Show, then you wonder what the whole appeal thing is all about.

I luv it the brownies are gaining on white america. For the progressives this is good cuz of the diversity but the redneck teabaggers must be shit”in in their pants! Time to head for the hills and dont forget urcseeds and guns…wait, what is that noise? Its obama and friends comin for u! Lol!!

There will be a reckoning soon. California is on the edge of bankruptcy, and half of that debt is directly attributable to the illegal alien parasites feeding off of an ever dwindling base of taxpayer money in CA. The legal citizens of California are leaving in droves and their taking their businesses and money with them. Blacks in Los Angeles county, and any other heavy Hispanic areas are being racially harassed by Latinos who now outnumber them by 10 to 1. and their using intimidation, and physical violence to do it. California is on the verge of racial war and it’s only a matter of time before the legal citizens rise up and throw out the illegal alien trespassers.

so very sad. univision and other spanish channels are the single biggest impediment to hispanic assimilation to this country. they’re nothing short of detriment to our society and sense of unity as a nation. oh and i’m a card carrying liberal…so save it…

  • am_underground

And you wonder why we need to close the boarders? They breed like rabbits and they come here to get their anchor baby status which just add to the nonspeaking English Mexican population.

  • Thetruth

Not a chance LOL. If they’re too lazy to learn to speak english they sure as hell are too lazy to translate and put in subtitles.
